With smiles throughout the room, patriotic decorations, live music and an overwhelming spirit of gratitude, the 13th annual Hands Healing Heroes Veterans Appreciation Day brought the community together for one purpose: to honor the men and women who have served our nation.
More than 200 veterans were welcomed to the Niagara Falls High School gymnasium on Saturday, along with their families, for an afternoon dedicated entirely to them.
Veterans enjoyed complimentary haircuts, therapeutic massages, a delicious dinner, goodie bags, gift certificates and a complimentary sheet of raffle tickets for the opportunity to win from a spectacular display of more than 200 gift baskets. Admission was free for veterans and their families.
Community members were also invited to participate for $20, which included dinner, a sheet of basket raffle tickets, live entertainment generously provided by Wood N Steel and, most importantly, the opportunity to personally thank and support our local heroes.
The gymnasium was transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue as veterans from different generations shared stories, enjoyed music and spent time with family and friends.
Numerous veterans service organizations were present, providing information about available programs, benefits and services while connecting veterans with resources throughout Western New York.
An especially meaningful part of the celebration was the participation of local Boy Scouts and young volunteers. Their involvement helped bridge the gap between generations, creating opportunities for young people to meet the men and women whose service has helped preserve the freedoms they enjoy today.
Hands Healing Heroes extends its heartfelt appreciation to Niagara Falls High School for once again graciously opening its doors, as well as to Wood N Steel, the businesses, corporate sponsors, veterans organizations, donors and countless volunteers whose generosity made this event possible.
“This day is about so much more than a meal, a haircut or a gift basket,” said Dr. Kristin Jacobsen, founder of Hands Healing Heroes. “It’s about creating a place where our veterans feel seen, respected and genuinely appreciated. In a world that spends so much time reminding us of everything that divides us, this room reminds us of everything that still connects us.”
Founded in 2014, Hands Healing Heroes is dedicated to honoring and empowering our nation’s veterans through community connection, compassionate care and holistic wellness.
