FLINTSTONE — A Cumberland man was injured Tuesday morning after falling approximately 20 feet from a tree stand, according to officials.
Emergency personnel were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to the 10000 block of Old Johnson Road off Baltimore Pike, according to an Allegany County Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
“The approximately 60-year-old man fell 18 to 20 feet out of a tree stand, landing on a pile of rocks,” Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Chief Michael Salvadge said.
The victim was located a half-mile off Johnson Road on a trail, according to Salvadge.
“It took crews approximately 15 minutes to reach the victim,” Salvadge added.
A Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter was requested to assist with evacuating the man from the remote location.
Trooper 5, based at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport, hoisted the victim from the site, Salvadge said. He was flown to UPMC Western Maryland with non-life-threatening injuries.
Units from Baltimore Pike and Flintstone volunteer fire departments, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and Allegany County Special Operations responded, according to a Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
