CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Allegany Rising program recently held an orientation for the 23 students who are part of the 2027 class.
Leadership Allegany Rising, which is modeled after the Chamber’s Leadership Allegany, is dedicated to positive change by creating a network of future leaders committed to impacting their community.
The participants, all high school juniors, are from Allegany High School, Bishop Walsh School, Calvary Christian Academy (homeschool), the Center for Career and Technical Education, Fort Hill High School, Lighthouse Christian Academy and Mountain Ridge High School.
In a forum of open discussion and interaction, class members gain the knowledge and motivation to effect positive change within the region. Class members cover topics such as healthcare, social services, government, economic development, business careers and higher education.
This year’s class includes Caleb Beck and Ava Burt, Center for Career and Technical Education; Crayton Cessna, Calvary Christian Academy; Henry Crawford, Fort Hill High School; Lucy Glass, Mountain Ridge High School; Mason Gross, Lighthouse Christian Academy; Will Hughes, Mountain Ridge; Jaxon LaRue, Fort Hill; Andrew Maistros, Lighthouse; Trinitee Johnson, Center for Career and Technical Education; Karena Liller, Fort Hill; James Maybury, Bishop Walsh School; Willow McCleaf, Mountain Ridge; Caylee McDonald, Center for Career and Technical Center; Colton McDonald, Caiden Ogden and Alyssa Rader, Allegany High School; Khushi Rathod, Bishop Walsh; Ava Shockey, Mountain Ridge; Anthony Shorto and Abigail “Abby” Still, Bishop Walsh; Wil Turner, Fort Hill; and Efthalia “Lia” Twigg, Allegany.
The Class of 2027 program is sponsored by AT&T, ABC Supply Co., Inc., Chessie Federal Credit Union, Community Trust Foundation, In Memory of James “Snake” Robertson, M&T Bank and UPMC Western Maryland. Orientation was sponsored by Allegany College of Maryland.

Official application period for the next cohort opens in May.
