PETOSKEY — North Central Michigan College split a pair of matches over the weekend.
The Timberwolves defeated Blackhawk Technical College 25-17, 25-10, 25-19 and fell to Bryant & Stratton College 25-11, 25-20, 25-16 at Bay College in Escanaba.
Gracie Jones (Newport) recorded 17 kills and 17 digs on the day, while libero Jael Downs (Missoula, Mont.) picked up 19 digs between the two games, Lily Kwiatkowski (Rudyard) produced eight kills, three aces and four blocks and Syerra Mills (Clare) had 12 kills.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the Northwood Invitational against NCAA DII, DIII, NAIA & D1 club teams., finishing seventh out of the 11th teams. The only NJCAA school to finish higher than the Timberwolves as Grand Rapids CC.
The men’s team ran the only four-mile race on schedule for this season.
Freshman Esther Hornibrook (Petoskey) finished 27th out of the 92 runners, finishing with a 20:46, the exact same PR she set last week. She was the fifth NJCAA runner to cross the finish line.
Dakota Taylor (Engadine) was the men’s top performer, crossing the finishing line 57th out of all runners and sixth out of NJCAA runners.
The cross country teams travel to Lansing to run in Friday’s Lansing CC Invitational. The event is held at Grand Woods Park and begins with the women’s race at 11 a.m. and the men run their first 8K of the season.
The women’s volleyball team starts conference play this week, traveling Monday to Kirtland CC for their inaugural meeting and returning home Wednesday the Bay College. Both matches start at 6:30 p.m.
