MCCOOLE — Charges are pending after an all-terrain vehicle struck a disabled vehicle along U.S. Route 220 near the Hi-Rock Animal Hospital Wednesday afternoon, seriously injuring the operator, according to Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Hill.
The ATV, operated by Xzavier Daniel Caleb Wilt, 18, of Rawlings, struck the parked vehicle parked on the shoulder of the roadway, ejecting the operator, according to Hill.
Units from Allegany County and Mineral County in West Virginia were dispatched just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of McMullen Highway and High Rock Drive, according to a spokesperson for the Allegany County Joint Communications Center.
Wilt was flown by a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter to the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital trauma center in Morgantown, West Virginia, for treatment of serious injuries, Hill said.
His condition is not currently known, according to deputies.
The roadway was closed for approximately one hour while deputies from the sheriff’s office crash reconstruction and technology teams investigated.
