Cookeville Regional Medical Center announced August West as its newest Sunshine Award recipient. West is a pharmacist in the emergency department. West received multiple nominations from patients and staff recognizing her ability to uphold the highest standards of care for patients and their families.
An excerpt from one nomination read, “I had one very special staff member on my latest visit to Cookeville Regional’s ER department. She is not a doctor or a nurse, she was the pharmacist. She was the highlight of a very tragic night. She spoke to me the whole time she was in the room, even though it was for a short time. She gave me every single bit of necessary information, including telling me exactly what the doctors were doing to my child and why they were working on my child. This person does not even know it, but she was an angel in disguise. She had the best bedside manner I have seen inside a hospital. She gave my family comfort that night, and I am forever grateful for her. She saw an upset, worried mother concerned about her child, and she intervened. She was so professional and made sure I was aware of every single medication that was administered and why. She told me specific things to watch for. I am so glad she was working that night. She probably does not even know the impact she had on my family and me in that situation. My hope is that she sees this. She made a huge difference that night. I will never forget her. I had to write this because she deserves so much praise.”
The Sunshine Award was created by CRMC’s Patient Experience Team to honor ancillary and support staff who consistently strive for excellence in their roles, deliver exceptional care and service, uphold the highest standards, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance the experience of patients, families and guests.
