Josiah Patterson, owner of Extraterrestrial Fungi, will be the guest speaker at the Aug. 19 meeting of the Fairfield Glade Garden Club meeting.
Patterson runs this family-owned gourmet mushroom farm in Powell, TN. The farm provides mushrooms through local farmers markets and grocery stores in that area and is featured by chefs throughout the Knoxville area.
Patterson will speak about the farm’s local roots, their gourmet mushroom offerings and the role they play in the regional food community.
He will also speak about some key points of fungi such as it being essential in medicine and their contribution to scientific research, among other things.
The meeting will be at Fairfield Glade Community Church at 521 Snead Drive. Members and visitors are welcome to arrive at 9 a.m. for refreshments. The business meeting begins at 9:30, with the featured program following.
