NEW RICHMOND, Wis. — Of all of his success in the World of Outlaws USA Nationals, Saturday’s race may have been the best for Bobby Pierce.
The Oakwood racer won his third USA Nationals title, but it was also his first win in 18 days. … Days where his father, National Dirt Track Hall of Famer Bob Pierce, battled back from a stroke to end up in victory lane with his son after the race at Cedar Lake Raceway.
It was a rebound from Thursday’s first night of action, where Pierce took 12th in the feature. Pierce then went to the backup car and was able to go from a 10th to sixth for the first 54 laps before the first caution. That caution gave Pierce a second chance and was able to pass Nick Hoffman to get the lead for good.
“I think we made the right call,” Pierce said. “Once again, I’ve got to say thanks to my crew. They got up early today and got these cars switched around, unloaded, shocks off and everything. We went through them hard, just really went through the setup top to bottom. I like this track again. I kind of didn’t like it last year because I was getting lapped, and now I like it again.”
Pierce’s win made him the fourth driver to win the race three or more times, joining Billy Moyer, Scott Bloomquist and Jonathan Davenport. The win was also his 18th series win of the season, tying the record set by Josh Richards in 2016 and Brandon Sheppard in 2017 and 2019.
Pierce will next race this weekend at the North/South 100 in Union, Ky. His first chance to break the World of Outlaws record will be on Aug. 21 at Maquoketa Speedway in Maquoketa, Iowa.
