SALEM, N.H. — Mutt Society, a Salem-based nonprofit that uses bicycles to empower communities, gave away 200 bikes to children in Lynn this past Saturday.
The bikes were donated, repaired and matched to recipients through the nonprofit’s partnering with Lynn-based Centerboard. The free bicycles went to children in Lynn who pre-registered for the event through Centerboard’s Lynn Family Resource Center (LFRC).
Through the support of donors, volunteer, and local bike stores, Mutt Society has delivered nearly 1,000 bikes to kids in communities north of Boston since 2022.
The annual bike drive is held in memory of Anthony “Tony” Monteiro, an Air Force veteran and avid outdoorsman whose family continues to honor his legacy by helping children experience the joy of owning their own bicycle.
On hand for the event were Trent Sanders and Andrew Wallace, co-founders, of Mutt Society, Centerboard leadership and staff along with members of the Monteiro family, volunteers and other community partners.
Founded in 2016, Mutt Society is a nonprofit organization that strengthens communities locally and around the world through bike donation programs, community events, and partnerships, Mutt Society helps remove barriers to transportation while promoting happiness, freedom, health, and belonging. Mutt Society has been revitalizing communities through personal transportation initiatives since repairing hurricane-damaged trails in Puerto Rico a decade ago.
