PLATSTBURGH — Castine Properties’ mettle was tested Thursday night in the YMCA Men’s League as they pulled out an overtime 54-51 victory over Pizarro’s Mobile Detailing.
A poor shooting night, including only 50% from the charity stripe and a tough detailed defense, did not help their cause.
Pizarro’s jumped out to early leads of 9-6 and 16-8 before CP tied the game at 21, only to see the Detailers get the final basket of the half for a 23-21 lead.
The second half was a seesaw event until the Property men opened up a 47-40 lead with five minutes to play. Castine Properties squandered that as Pizarro’s fought back to grab a two-point lead after getting three offensive boards, a Rob Fout put back and one foul with 22 seconds to play.
Castine’s came down the floor and had a few failed attempts. On a loose ball rebound, Andrew Castine dove to the floor to pop the ball loose as Caroson Duffield got a jump ball that favored CP with nine seconds to play.
After the inbounds didn’t work, Jamie Davison drove left and scooped in a layup to knot the score at 49 as the clock ran out.
In overtime, Carson Duffield got a quick pass to give CP a two-point lead. On the ensuing play, Kyle Cahoon nailed a deep two to tie the score at 51.
Cahoon then fouled out of the game, sending Matt Farbotko to the line, who hit the front end of a one-and-one for a 52-51 lead.
The Property men tightened their defense, and Chris Castine corralled the rebound and hit both ends of the one-and-one for a three-point lead with 9 seconds to play.
Pizarro’s had two contested attempts to tie the game but fell short.
For CP, Chris Castine led the team with 25 points, including three from long range, a perfect six-of-six from the line and 10 boards.
Matt Farbotko added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Nate Parliament also had seven rebounds, and Jamie Davison handed out four assists.
For Pizarro’s Mobile, Max Filosco had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Alex Medina was all over the floor picking up five steals.
Castine goes to 8-0 while Pizarro’s drops to 4-4.
LP PULLS AWAY
PLATTSBURGH — Bailey Pombrio supplied the scoring and Thom Murray delivered a strong two-way performance as Lomanto Provost Financial Advisors defeated Wasson St. Elite, 72-54, in YMCA Men’s League action Thursday.
Pombrio finished with a game-high 28 points, doing much of his damage from the perimeter with six 3-pointers. His shooting helped LP create separation early and eventually push its lead to as many as 40 points.
Murray made his biggest impact after halftime. He connected on three second-half 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals. His defensive activity helped keep Wasson from gaining any momentum while LP extended its advantage.
The contributions went well beyond the two leading performers.
Kyle Lapoint helped facilitate the offense with a team-high five assists while collecting seven rebounds.
Keagen Briggs provided a strong presence inside, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with six points and three assists.
Steve Peryea scored 13 points and hit three 3-pointers while Zachary Bieber contributed 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
LP finished with 18 assists and connected on 12 3-pointers, consistently finding the extra pass and converting from the perimeter.
Wasson St. Elite trimmed the margin after LP built its largest lead, but the early separation proved too much to overcome in the 72-54 final.
