TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man was arraigned Thursday on multiple counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material, among other charges.
Jason Wayne Redman, 55, was arrested at his downtown business on Wednesday after a months-long investigation that found about 8,000 images and videos on devices that police seized with a search warrant.
Redman was arraigned on three charges of aggravated child sexually abusive material, using a computer to commit a crime, a weapons offense and purchasing a firearm without a license. All charges except the last are felonies.
Magistrate Melanie Catinella set a $50,000 10-percent bond. Additional bond conditions restrict Redman from having any contact with minors; he cannot go where minors gather; and he cannot possess a firearm or other dangerous weapon.
A preliminary examination for Redman is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 13.
On Feb. 18, Traverse City Police Department detectives met with the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and learned about several tips that had been received through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding possible child sexual abuse material.
That information indicated the suspected activity was connected to a person within the city limits of Traverse City, later identified as Redman. Detectives conducted an investigation that included the execution of several search warrants on May 8 at Redman’s home and workplace.
Investigators seized “numerous electronic devices” which were sent to the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit for forensic examination.
, and an unregistered and undocumented firearm, a Traverse City police press release reported.
Officials said they took Redman into custody without incident and lodged him in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
