Car show set for VA
The Corvette Cruisers of Illinois is hosting a car show on Saturday, July 11 at the VA Illini Center, 1901 E. Main St. in Danville.
All makes and models are welcomed. Registration will be from 9:30-11 a.m. The car show fee is a donation, and awards will be present at 2 p.m.
Logan Kirby will provide entertainment. Food and drinks will be available for a donation.
All show proceeds benefit the Danville VA Veterans.

Taps on Tuesday
This week’s Taps on Tuesday program will focus on frontier scout William Woodrum, who served in Kentucky.
The program will be presented by his descendant, Alan Woodrum, and will be hosted by Larry Weatherford and J.C. Switzer.
“Taps” will be sounded by Anita Zoeller with special music by Rebecca Woodrum. “Taps” is presented at 6 p.m. each Tuesday through Labor Day by the War Museum, Danville Township and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.

Forest Glen hosts Stardew Valley program
The Vermilion County Conservation District is hosting the Stardew Valley IRL — Summer in the Sun program at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Forest Glen Preserve.
Celebrate the joy of pond fishing, learning about local aquatic life, and connect it to your level up skills in the Stardew Valley video game.
This program is designed for nature nerds and gamer nerds alike.
Start with an in-classroom lesson on identifying common fish species and their unique adaptations followed by pond dipping and fishing. A park naturalist will be available to share information about local wildlife, and help participants make the most of their day at the pond. Recommended participant age is 14 and up.

Art League hosts special exhibit
The Danville Art League is reflecting on the people, place and moments that have defined Vermilion County, celebrating its 200th Anniversary, and the United States, celebrating its 250th Anniversary.
“A Walk Through the History of the Art League,” is an exhibit currently on display at the Danville Art League, 320 N. Franklin Street in Danville.
This exhibit will be open during our regular business hours of 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays and Wednesdays. For other times, please call 217-442-9264 to make an appointment.
Additionally, Gary Resh, owner of Resh Frame Shop and a former Art League president will speak at a reception on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public.
July events for Hoopeston Library
The Hoopeston Public Library, 110 N. 4th Street in Hoopeston, have three events set for the month of July.
First up, is a program through the University of Illinois Extension at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13 on family keepsakes. Participants will explore ways to talk to family members about the difficult subject of distributing family items with emotional and sentimental value while keeping relationships intact. Next on the calendar in Hoopeston, is the History Under Our Feet Family Scavenger Hunt at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. Teams, which should include at least one adult (18 or older) will have 90 minutes to find and take pictures of clues around the area. To end the month, the Hoopeston Public Library is hosting a Ride Through Time from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. A collection of vintage vehicles will be on display in from the library, while inside there will be a display of vintage tools, toys, household items and more. Get your picture take in our History Corner and then top it off with a cool treat from Sundae Funday.

ECICAA hosts golf scramble
The East Central Illinois Community Action Agency is hosting its Sixth Annual Golf Fundraiser Scramble on Friday, July 24 at Rivercrest Golf Club, 14 Club House Drive, in Covington, Ind.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. (Central) on July 24, while a putting contest will be held at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start set for 10 a.m.
Early registration fee is $75 per player or $300 for a 4-member team, while the fee for a Rivercrest member is $60. On the day of the event, the fee will be $85 per player or $340 per team. Covington VFW holds fish fry
The Fountain County VFW Post No. 2395 Auxiliary is hosting a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, July 17 at their post, 1212 Liberty Street in Covington, Ind.
The menu includes fish, fries, baked beans, slaw and tea. Cost is $15 for the public and $12 for veterans, dine in or carry out.
Proceeds are used to support community and post activities as well as maintain the post.
Carle hosts blood drive
Carle at the Riverfront is hosting a community with ImpactLife from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 17, inside the ImpactLife Donor Bus, which will be located at 516 W. Madison St. in Danville.
Donor eligibility criteria: All donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with a parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org. A donor must weigh more than 110 pounds and have a photo I.D. is required to donate. Additionally, donors who have given blood on May 22 or later are not eligible to give at this time.

Horizon offers health screenings
Horizon Health will offer discounted health screenings from 7-9 a.m. on Friday, July 17 at the Paris Clinic..
Leighsa Cornwell, RN, CDCES, certified diabetes care and education specialist, will provide blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid panel (HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) screenings. The cost for all three screenings is $25. For an additional $10, an A1c test can be added, which measures average blood sugar over the past two to three months. Cash, debit/credit card, and checks are accepted. Insurance will not be billed.
For blood sugar tests, patients are asked to fast eight hours prior to the screening. The test involves a fingerstick and results will be available before you leave.

Amish author visits Danville
Kevin Williams, the editor of The Amish Cook is visiting Silk & Spine Books and Boutique, 137 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, to sign copies of his new book, Not So Simple: My Adventures Among the Amish, Mennonites, Shakers, and Other Plain People.
Williams will talk about the column and his journalism journey, answer questions, and sign books.

Foodmobile stops in Vermilion County
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces the “Foodmobile” will be distributing food to local families facing food insecurity in Vermilion County this month. On Tuesday, July 28, the Foodmobile will make stops in Rossville and Ridge Farm. The distribution is part of the Foodbank’s Foodmobile Program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.
The first stop on July 28 will be at Christman Park in Rossville from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a stop in Ward Park in Ridge Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

St. Joseph Library hosts book sale
The St. Joseph Township-Swearingen Memorial Library, 201 N. Third St., St. Joseph, announces its Summer Used Book Sale. The book sale will begin on Monday, Aug. 3 and end on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
All items are for sale by donation. There will be adult fiction, non-fiction, mystery, science fiction, horror, romance adventure, biography, crafts and cookbooks as well as children’s fiction, non-fiction and picture books. There may also be DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks and large print books.

Illinois Extension and OSF offer diabetes support
Illinois Extension and OSF Healthcare have joined together for a monthly diabetes support group designed for individual living with diabetes and their caregivers.
These sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. The next session is set for Aug. 4 and the final session will be Dec. 8.
Each session will include a short educational component and open discussion, where participants may share their experiences, discuss their successes and challenges, and learn from one another.
Topics are not preset and will be guided on participant interests and needs. Participants will receive a SmartMeals meal kit from OSF.

Turtle Run hosts D.A.R.E. golf outing
The 34th Annual Vermilion County D.A.R.E. Golf Scramble is set for noon, Aug. 15 at Turtle Run Golf Club, 332 E. Liberty Lane in Danville.
Cost to enter the four-man scramble is $85 per team member or and the cost for Turtle Run members is $70 per player.
In addition to 18 holes of golf, the entry includes the use of a golf cart and lunch at 11 a.m. Sponsorships are also available, a scoreboard sponsorship costs $25, a hole sponsorship costs $50 and a corporate sponsorship, which includes team, cart and hole sponsorship, is $500.

Kiwanis Pancake Day set for Aug. 27
The 76th Annual Kiwanis Pancake and Sausage Day is set for Thursday, Aug. 27 at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville.
The Kiwanis will be serving pancakes and sausages from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are $7.50 from a Kiwanis member or the cost is $8 at the door.

Horizon Health hosts EMT class
Horizon Health is now accepting registration for an EMT-Basic certification course this fall.
The 20-week course will take place Mondays and Thursdays, from 5 to 9 pm, beginning September 14. Classes will take place at the Horizon Health Education Center, located at 15197 US Highway 150, in Paris.
The course fee is $1,000, which includes a student polo shirt for clinical hours, student workbook, a drug screen, and a background check. This fee will also cover the applicant’s first exam attempt through the National Registry. Applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Internet access is required, as this is a hybrid course. Access to Jones & Bartlett Learning and all course materials are provided. CPR certification is included in the course.
Applicants will be screened prior to being accepted into the class, which may include a brief meeting or phone interview. They cannot be a convicted felon and must be up to date on immunizations prior to the start of class. Accepted applicants will be notified.
