COLUMBIA — Three players from area high schools were named to MBCA (Maryland Basketball Coaches Association) All-State teams.
Allegany’s Chris Manherz was a first-team selection across Class 1A and 2A.
Manherz was this winter’s Area Player of the Year after finishing fourth in scoring average (23.5) and total points (540).
He led the area with 4.6 assists per game and was third in steals (2.9) and fifth in 3-pointer average (2.39).
Manherz led the Campers to its first region title since 2017.
He’s the fifth area player, and first from Allegany, to earn MBCA All-State honors since the awards began in 2017.
Fort Hill’s Deshaun Brown was a first-teamer in 2024.
Southern’s Isaac Upole (2022) and Bryson Wilt (2020) were third-team selections, while Tyler Rodeheaver was an honorable mention in 2019.
Southern’s girls earned two first-team selections in the Class 1A/2A awards.
Jayden Weaver and Emelee Parks were first-teamers after leading the Rams to the program’s fifth state title in March.
Weaver was the Area Player of the Year after finishing ninth with 13 points per game and eighth with 3.2 assists.
She led the area shooting 73.3% at the line and was third with 49 triples and fifth in 3-point percentage (34.5%).
Weaver was a second-team selection last season.
Parks finished second in free throw percentage (72.9%), third in assists per game (5), tied for seventh in steals per game (3) and tied for 10th in scoring average (12.1).
Parks is signed to Division II West Virginia Wesleyan.
Weaver and Parks join four other area players to earn All-State honors.
Southern’s Carly Wilt earned back-to-back selections in 2024 and 2025.
Mountain Ridge’s Sydney Snyder was a first-teamer in 2024.
Southern’s Courtney Roth also went back-to-back in 2017 and 2018, while Kamrin Weimer was a first-teamer in 2017.
