The Fantastic Quilt Guild Quilts of Valor chapter of Fairfield Glade presented a Quilt of Valor to Jay Cleveland on May 23 during his 90th birthday celebration at Robin Hood Park, Fairfield Glade.
Janice Cahill and Ruth Hill of the QOV chapter presented the quilt.
Cleveland was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956, and was sent to Fort Collins, CO, for basic training. He then served in Germany for two years before he was honorably discharged.
He joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was on active duty in 1977. He was sent to rebuild roads and bridges in Ecuador after a devastating earthquake.
Cleveland was also sent to Panama for more reconstruction duties. He returned to California to rebuild an Army float bridge. He was a chief warrant officer 04 upon his retirement in 1993 from Army Reserve.
