TRAVERSE CITY — Up North Pride is moving to Commongrounds Cooperative.
The organization will be a tenant and programming partner at 414 E. Eighth St.
The new partnership gives Up North Pride a base for staff, board, and committee operations, as well as space to host community programs and support groups, according to a statement Wednesday.
Up North Pride was formerly located at 314 E Eighth St.
It’s not a typical landlord arrangement because of a cooperative ownership model that makes building itself is a community asset and the community owns the infrastructure, the statement said.
“Up North Pride brings something you can’t manufacture: a community that genuinely shows up for each other. That’s exactly what Commongrounds is built for, and I’m thrilled to welcome them, said Commongrounds Cooperative Executive Director Brennan Sang.
The move will also stoke collaborations with other tenants, like a Queer Writers Circle at The Folded Leaf, a Queerstory storytelling event at The Alluvion during Pride Week, and a Queer Business Owner Round Table through Grove Community Incubator.
“We are so grateful to find a new home in Commongrounds — a space for our staff, our support groups, and our community to gather in a truly welcoming environment,” said Up North Pride Executive Director Adrienne Brown-Reasner. “Being part of this community has already opened doors to new programs in partnership with the tenant owners at Commongrounds.”
