COVINGTON, Ind. — The Colton Wright Memorial Car Show brought 87 entries to Courthouse Square in Covington, Ind. on Saturday June 6.
Wright, a Covington native and a 2016 Covington High School graduate, was murdered back in 2021 in Sarasota, Fla.
The car show was combined with the 10-year class reunion as several of Wright’s classmates attended and chose a vehicle they felt Wright would have loved and the winner was a 2017 Ford Mustang GT owned by Chris and Susan Moak, originally from Tennessee, but currently living in the Illiana region.
There were also the Top 21 awards given as well as a Mayor’s Choice Award. The overall winner, called the Colton’s Choice Award, was chosen by several of Colton’s family members. They chose a 2019 Ford Mustang Rousch owned by Steve and Kim Keeling of Wingate, Ind.
During the show, Colton’s mom, Amy Thompson, presented one of four scholarships which had been chosen last week for the 2026 incoming students, to Angelo Hall, a DACC student, majoring in automotive technology.
“The entire purpose of starting the Memorial Car Show was to be able to award scholarships to students at Danville Area Community College,’’ Thompson said. “We started the scholarships in 2022 and have been able to increase the number of scholarships we award each year due to the funds raised.
“Colton was very passionate about vehicles of all types from a very early age. I feel this is a wonderful way to honor him and help students at the same time.”
He was surrounded by his instructor, Dean Graves, Gina Davis, with the DACC Foundation Office, two of last year’s scholarship recipients, Garrett Wells and Eli Davis, and Colton’s mom, Amy.
