Some of Gloucester High’s top outdoor track athletes represented their team proudly with stellar showings at this week’s MSTCA state decathlon and pentathlon championships.
It was the perfect conclusion to an exceptional campaign for the Fishermen on both the boys and girls sides.
But before Gloucester competed at the state level to round out its spring, the program was rewarded for its work throughout the regular season as the Northeastern Conference announced its annual all-star teams.
For the girls, the Fishermen’s 4×100 relay team of Maddison Goodhue, Grace Castellucci, Tess Taylor and Carla Kasera took home All-Conference honors. That foursome had come out on top at the NEC Championship meet with a time of 51.49 seconds.
In addition, senior captains Madison Jewell, Hope Castellucci and Cia Donohoe were all honored with NEC Lynch Division all-star status while GHS head coach David Coleman was named the NEC girls Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a Lynch Division crown.
Jewell excelled in the sprints, mid-distance and relay events; Catecllucci was particularly strong in the 800, triple jump and relays; and Donohoe made her mark in the 400 hurdles, jumps, javelin and relays.
On the boys side, both Leo Cosentino and Jeferson do Carmo earned recognition as NEC Lynch Division all-stars. Cosentino shined in the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump, while also regularly competing in the relay events. Do Carmo is a versatile runner as well, thriving in the 100, 400, 1500, mile and both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. He, too, was a regularly on GHS boys’ relay teams.
