Catlin Library hosts book sale
The Catlin Public Library is holding a used book sale until June 6. Hardbacks and paperbacks, non-fiction, fiction, children’s books are all available for purchase. The cost of the books is a monetary donation supporting our programs.
The Catlin Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. 5K race set for BOV Festival
Balloons over Vermilion is going to kick off the 2026 Festival with the inaugural “Up & Away 5K” at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6 at Kennekuk County Park. Runners and walkers are invited to take part in the scenic course, and after the race, participants and others can enjoy a relaxing yoga session led by Merrit Spicer of Yoga on the Go. The one-hour session will begin around 9 a.m.
Cost for the race is $45. Participants will receive an official race T-shirt, a race bib number, a medal and free admission to the post-race yoga session. Covington Square hosts car show
The Colton Wright Memorial Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Eastern) on Saturday, June 6, around the Covington Square in Covington. Music, Angie’s Country Kitchen Food Truck, kid’s activities and shopping on (and around) the Courthouse Square will be part of the day.
A Covington High School Class of 2016 tent will also be set up for classmates to meet. Colton was a 2016 Covington High School graduate. Ice Cream will be served from The Sundae Shoppe from noon until 2 p.m. at the tent. All CHS 2016 alumni are invited to attend.
Cost to enter a car, truck, motorcycle, ATV or golf cart will be $10. Dash Plaques will be awarded to the first 50 participants. Awards will be announced at 1:30 pm. First Saturday at War MuseumThe Medal of Honor awarded to Civil War General John Charles Black of Danville will be on display from 1-3 p.m. this Saturday at the Ware Museum.
First Saturdays are presented by the War Museum and Danville Township. Admission is free.
Covington Banquet scheduled June 6The annual Covington High School Alumni Banquet is set for Saturday, June 6 at the Beef House Banquet Hall, located at 16501 IN-63, Covington, Ind.
Susan Orr Henderson and John M. Mills will be inducted into the CHS Wall of Fame. Activities get started at 4:30 p.m. (Eastern) with dinner being served at 6:15 p.m., and alumni meeting will be held at 7:45 p.m. with dancing and social time set for 8:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and dance at $35. Tickets for the alumni meeting and dance $10. Catlin rummage sale set for June 6The Catlin Historical Society is sponsoring a citywide rummage sale on Saturday, June 6.
Forms for sign-up will be available at the museum, post office, village hall, Floral-n-Flair, and Catlin Library.
To have your sale listed on the city map a $5 fee is to be paid at sign-up.
The Museum will accept donations to their sale with the proceeds going to the Catlin Historical Society. No building materials, mattresses or large items will be accepted, if questionable please call the museum. The deadline for sign-up forms and rummage donation is Wednesday, June 3. Taps on TuesdayA series of programs honoring soldiers of the American Revolution will start on Tuesday, June 9 with the Taps on Tuesday program.
Lori Hutt, of Georgetown, will be the guest speaker, talking about two of her ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War. One of those became the second governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The following three weeks will focus on Revolutionary War Soldiers buried in Vermilion County. The weekly program is held at Spring Hill Cemetery’s Soldiers Circle starting at 6 p.m. It’s presented by the War Museum, the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable and Danville Township.
Larry Weatherford and Greg Green will host the program, Rebecca Woodrum will lead the National Anthem and perform a 1700s era song accompanied by Keith Bouslog. Taps will be sounded by Anita Zoeller.
HPL hosts book challenge
The Hoopeston Public Library, 110 N. Fourth St., Hoopeston, is hosting a youth and adult summer reading challenge beginning Monday, June 1.
Individuals can pick up a reading journal from June 1 to July 31 to track the books that they have read. For every book read, spin the Wheel of Fortune and win a prize. Read five books and win a free book. Read 10 books and win a Hoopeston Public Library tumbler. Read 20 books and get your name entered into a drawing to win one of three “bookish” prize baskets.

Illinois Extension and OSF offer diabetes support
Illinois Extension and OSF Healthcare have joined together for a monthly diabetes support group designed for individual living with diabetes and their caregivers.
These sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. The next session is set for June 9 and the final session will be Dec. 8.
Each session will include a short educational component and open discussion, where participants may share their experiences, discuss their successes and challenges, and learn from one another. Topics are not preset and will be guided on participant interests and needs. Participants will receive a SmartMeals meal kit from OSF.

Project Success and the United Way of Danville Area are hosing a Parent Support Group meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10 at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St.
Westville Library events for June
The Westville Library, 233 S. State St. in Westville, has some special events set for June.
On Saturday, June 13, it will be a open house from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the Freedom Celebration Bus tour around 1 p.m.
Finally, it will be Catch the Reading Wave Summer Reading Program during the week of June 22-26. Kindergartners through second grade will be at 10 a.m. while third grade to sixth grade will be at 2 p.m.

PCH host chocolate sales
The Paris Community Hospital Volunteers is holding a two-day chocolate sale.
The sales will take place Tuesday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Horizon Health’s main campus, 721 E. Court St. in Paris.
Sale items will include gourmet chocolates with sugar-free options, mixed nuts, and more.
Cash and debit/credit cards will be accepted. Chocolate sales support the efforts of the PCH Volunteers, who provide financial assistance to hospital projects and award scholarships to area students who are pursuing healthcare careers.
DHS Class of 1957 meets for lunch
The Danville High School Class of 1957 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15th at Jocko’s, 305 W. Williams St. in Danville.
The next luncheon is set for Sept. 21 at Jocko’s.
Foodmobile stops in Vermilion County
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces the “Foodmobile” will be distributing food to local families facing food insecurity in Vermilion County this month.
On Tuesday, June 23, the Foodmobile will make stops in Rossville and Ridge Farm.
The distribution is part of the Foodbank’s Foodmobile Program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.
The first stop on June 23 will be at Christman Park in Rossville from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a stop in Ward Park in Ridge Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Recording artist “Mrs. Kate” Carpenter will be performing her original folk songs at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25 at the Danville Public Library, 219 N. Vermilion Street in Danville.

VCCD hosts workshop on Illinois Dragonflies
DANVILLE — Kennekuk County Park, located at 22296 Henning Road in Danville, is hosting an Illinois Department of Natural Resources ENTICE workshop, Illinois Dragonflies, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 26.
Rusty snaketail, prince baskettail, and eastern amberwing all have one thing in common — being an Illinois dragonfly. Take part in field work and lab studies as we discuss the identification, life history, and behaviors of these fascinating invertebrates, both as aquatic nymphs and as adults. This workshop is for grades 6 to 10 but can be adapted for other grades.
Pre-registration is required. The cost is $11/person and individuals can sign up online at https://www.enticeworkshops.com. Experience ENTICE! Classroom resources, materials, and books will be provided to participants.
This workshop is offered through the ENTICE (Environment and Nature Training Institute for Conservation Education) for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). ENTICE classes are professional development workshops for educators, both formal and nonformal, sponsored by the IDNR. Preservice teachers welcome. Supplemental classroom resources will be provided. Horizon Health hosts EMT class
Horizon Health is now accepting registration for an EMT-Basic certification course this fall.
The 20-week course will take place Mondays and Thursdays, from 5 to 9 pm, beginning September 14. Classes will take place at the Horizon Health Education Center, located at 15197 US Highway 150, in Paris.
The course fee is $1,000, which includes a student polo shirt for clinical hours, student workbook, a drug screen, and a background check. This fee will also cover the applicant’s first exam attempt through the National Registry. Applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Internet access is required, as this is a hybrid course. Access to Jones & Bartlett Learning and all course materials are provided. CPR certification is included in the course.
Applicants will be screened prior to being accepted into the class, which may include a brief meeting or phone interview. They cannot be a convicted felon and must be up to date on immunizations prior to the start of class. Accepted applicants will be notified.
