Swampscott 15, South Shore Voke 3: Junior midfielder John von Barta scored six goals, including four in a row during an eight-goal third period for his squad, as the Big Blue (10-9) rolled in a Division 3 preliminary round playoff tilt at home.
Luke Michigan dominated at the faceoff X, winning 15-of-17 draws. Another junior captain, Jack Duffy, dominated on defense and never allowed South Shore to get into an offensive rhythm in front of goalie Colton Alex (3 saves). Also putting up points for the winners were Jason Rothwell (3G, A), Emerson Joy (3G, A), Tyler Ostroff (G, 2A, plus 3 faceoff wins in 4 attempts), Ollie Braham (G, A), Will Rowe (G) and Bennet Tierney (A).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 15, Sturgis West 0: Sydney Leonard, Vivian Bodycombe and Miranda Baran combined for a shutout in net as the second seeded Tigers (14-3) rolled in their Division 4 playoff opener. Captain Allie Wile (3 goals, assist), Natalie Elder (2 goals, 2 assists), Ella McCarthy (2 goals, assist), Maddie Machaiek (2 goals, assist), Keira McPartlin (goal, 2 assists), Taryn O’Brien, Julia Druskat, Ella Schofield, Amani Makuwa and Monica Martos Perez all got onto the scoresheet for IHS.
BOYS TENNIS
Ipswich 4, Wareham 1: With the upset victory over an 18-win team, the Tigers (now 2-13) advance to meet their arch rivals, top-seeded Hamilton-Wenham, in the Division 4 second round Monday. Winners for Ipswich included Grant Bowser at first singles, Cole Flather at third singles, Yianni Nikolaou and Stormy Kacynvenski at first doubles, and Huck Harlow and Will Gysa at second doubles.
East Longmeadow 4, Bishop Fenwick 1: The No. 5 seed in the Division 3 state playoffs ended the season for Fenwick (11-7) with a first round defeat.
GIRLS TENNIS
Bishop Fenwick 5, Dighton-Rehoboth 0: Playing indoors at the Manchester Athletic Club, the Crusaders (now 11-5) easily advanced to the second round of the Division 3 state playoffs.
Acton-Boxborough 4, Beverly 1: In the first round of the Division 1 state playoffs, the 26th seeded Panthers picked up a singles victory by Olivia Devereux (6-4, 4-6, 10-5) in a road defeat against the seventh seeded Revolution. Beverly, which also had a terrific doubles match from twin sisters Sophie and Maddie Litterer, finished its season at 11-6 overall.
Masconomet 4, Oliver Ames 1: Ella Mossey gutted out two tough sets to win both, 7-5, 7-5, at third singles propelling the Chieftians to victory. Ria Kundaliya (6-0, 6-0) and Sienna Anvari (6-1, 6-2) prevailed in first and second singles, respectively, while Ava Zarrineh and Cyra Anvari won a three-setter (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) at first doubles. Top seeded Notre Dame Hingham is up next for Masco (now 9-6).
UNIFIED SPORTS
McManus becomes Salem’s first two-time state champ: Nile McManus took first place in both the Division 1-10 100 meter race (13.25 seconds) and the Div. 1-7 long jump (14 feet 4 inches) to pace the Salem Unified Track and Field team at the 2026 MIAA State Championships at Natick High. It was the fifth straight year that the Witches had a state champion, claiming five first place finishes overall at the event.
Seniors Erik Shehaj (D1-6 javelin, 53-2) and Mara Laskowski (Div. 1-1 javelin, 15-8) each captured their first state titles for Salem, as did freshman Marisabel Diaz in the D1-1 shot put (15 feet), setting a new personal best throw at the same time.
The Witches’ 4×100 relay team of Jayden Lopez, McManus, Henry Beauparlant, and Shehaj took second place in Division 1 in a new program record time of 54.5 seconds. Senior Polly Babineau was third in both the D1-4 javelin (30 feet) and and D1-5 100 meter (20.7 seconds), with freshman Charlotte Leyendecker (100 meter exhibition race, 19.69) and junior Sophia Vargas (D1-3 100 meter, 17:82) also taking third places. Another freshman, Alany Ortiz, was fourth in the D-17 100 meter dash (17.82), and sophomore Mikey Kennedy placed fourth in his states debut in the D1-2 javelin (15-5). A senior, Gianmarcos Jiminez, set a new PR in the D1-5 shot put (27-10) while placing fifth in his final meet.
