Andover 10, Dracut 1
The Warriors locked up the Merrimack Valley Conference 2 championship for the second straight year with the tidy win on Saturday. Molly Purtschert picked up her second complete-game win in as many days. She struck out seven Middies without a walk. The run was unearned.
“She just takes the ball and does the job. I’m really proud of her,” said coach Rick Quattrocchi of his senior captain.
Greater Lawrence Tech 12, North Middlesex 1
The Reggies moved to 9-6 behind Sam Nasella’s 14-strikeout performance. Olivia Erban had a pair of hits to drive in six Reggie runs. Lianis Castro added three hits and two RBIs.
Central Catholic 14, Methuen 7
In moving to 16-0, Central posted double-figure runs for the fifth time in the last six games. Dejalise Calderon had three hits with a triple and three runs scored. Emily Goc had two hits and scored twice. Meg Maresca had two hits and two RBIs. Stella Clements drove in three runs, while Chloe Salerno scored two and added two RBIs. Meg Clements had a hit, three walks and two runs scored.
Whittier Tech 11, Swampscott 10
The Cats are making a late bid for the state tourney, posting their fourth win in the last five to move to 6-8. Samantha Evans had a monster day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with six RBIs and two runs scored. Alyvia Feliz and Savannah Kelley had two hits apiece for the Wildcats, who are right back to work on Sunday vs. Salem.
Big East Prep Tourney
Six teams remain alive after Day 1 of the Big East Prep Softball Tourney, heading into Sunday.
At 9 a.m. on Sunday at Phillips Andover, Brooks will play Lawrence Academy and Milton Academy will play Phillips Exeter, each of those teams survived and advanced by going 1-1 on Saturday. The winners of those games will face St. Paul’s and Phillips Andover, at 11 a.m. in the semifinals. Those two teams went 2-0 on Saturday. Phillips Andover, now 19-0, got wins from Ashley Schuman and Morgan McDonough.
Baseball
Central Catholic 11, Andover 10
Nine innings and 30 hits later, the Raiders walked-off with the victory, moving to 8-10 on Saturday. Finn Rourke’s (3 for 4, 2 runs) RBI base hit in the bottom of the ninth plated the game winner. Anthony Polichetti paced the 19-hit Central attack with three singles and a double to drive in four. Aidan Silva added three hits.
Boden Wood had three hits for Andover. Kyle Olson had a pair of hits, driving in a pair. Ryan Cardillo had three RBIs.
Greater Lawrence Tech 6, Lowell Catholic 1
Captain Josue Reyes struck out 11 batters and closed out the five-hitter in style, powering the Reggies to the win. He walked nobody.
Jerlin Melo struck the key offensive blow in the five-run GLT third inning, a three-run triple. Evan Starr, Reyes, Jadiel Toribio, Andy Segura, Ricardo Martinez, Melo, Dyron Martinez, and Chris Sanchez all had hits.
Winnacunnet 7, Salem 0
Behind the masterful mound work of Brady Silver, Salem went pitch for pitch for six innings with the Warriors. But Winnacunnet broke it open with six in the seventh, dropping the Blue Devils to 5-10 on the year. Brady Gray and Aiden Forbes had two hits apiece for Salem.
Dexter Southfield 4, Phillips 2
Phillips bowed out of the New England Prep tourney despite some solid mound work from Grant McCubrey and Derry’s Jacob Honor. Haverhill’s Caleb Penn had an RBI single, scoring Andover’s Grady Wright.
Brooks 6, St. George’s 3
Brooks advances to the ISL Consolation Championship for the second time in the last three seasons. Kai Turner got the start and the win on the mound, going four innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one. Austin Stern pitched the last three innings in scoreless, one-hit fashion to earn the save, striking out three while walking none.
Boys Lacrosse
Pinkerton 21 Portsmouth 8
Dylan Stingel and Tyler Pinardi dominated the faceoff x for the 12-2 Astros. Matt Gormady and Levi Weaver combined for a dozen goals and six assists on the day. Pinardi kicked in two goals with four assists. Brady Blaszka, Brendan Carney and Nate Smith anchored the defense in front of Owen Perkins (7 saves).
Volleyball
Windham 3, Souhegan 1
Bryan Nguyen, Tomas Navratil and TJ Jordan all had six kills and three aces for the Jags. Andrew Begley had 21 assists and a pair of blocks.
