Niagara County Legislators Christopher McKimmie and Sam Farruggia presented a $2,000 check to the Niagara Beautification Commission on Monday to help support its annual cleanup and the other work they do across the City of Niagara Falls.
Chair Laura Chenault of the Niagara Beautification Commission accepted the check on behalf of the organization.
The funding came from the Niagara County Legislature’s Community Partnership Fund. Legislators Christopher Robins and Jeffrey Elder also sponsored the resolution to secure the funding.
“We want people to come out and help with the cleanup this Saturday,” McKimmie said. “But just as important, we want everyone to take pride in where they live. If people stop littering and pick up trash when they see it, it will make a big difference.”
Farruggia said the event is about working together as a community.
“This is about taking care of our neighborhoods,” Farruggia said. “When people take pride in where they live, the whole city benefits.”
The annual citywide cleanup will take place this Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., and organizers are encouraging residents to take part.
