Gloucester native Jayden Toppan, a sophomore heavyweight wrestler at Roger Williams University, continues to excel both on the mat and in the classroom.
Earlier this month, the former Fishermen star took home NCAA Division 3 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American honors for the second straight season. He joined four other teammates in garnering the award.
The qualifying criteria for a Scholar All-American at the D3 level is to hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and, at minimum, place in the top eight at the regional tournament or wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66.
A sports management major, Toppan carries a 3.42 GPA in the classroom. On the mat, he compiled a 22-11 overall record in the 285-pound weight class this past season, finishing in sixth place at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship. Toppan helped Roger Williams to a 14-6 record, including a 10th place finish at the aforementioned Northeast Regional Championship.
One of the best Gloucester High wrestlers in program history, Toppan went 51-5 as a senior in 2024, finishing fourth at the All-State meet after being crowned champion as a junior.
Toppan’s twin brother, Michael, also competes for the Roger Williams squad. He finished the 2025-26 season with an 11-11 record at 197 pounds, recording multiple bonus-point victories while demonstrating consistency and competitiveness against a strong regional schedule.
