Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsors’ an essay contest to encourage young minds to examine America’s history along with their own experience in modern American society by drafting a 300 to 400-word essay expressing their views based on a patriotic theme, chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.
Molly Neal’s essay on the theme, “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?” won her a certificates and money. Neal was the winner for the Voice of Democracy.
Daisy R. McCloud, an eighth-grade student, from Pine View Elementary School, was named the 2024-2025 Patriot’s Pen first-place winner for VFW Post 5025 on her essay “My Voice in America’s Democracy?”
It was presented to the Daisy by VFW Post 5025, Commander Tommy Olivo, VFW Post 5025 Auxiliary President Mike Ducheteau and VFW District 11, Commander Wayne Finley.
