Day 1 of the New England Wrestling Championships is in the books, and Sunday’s semifinals are set.
In all, eight area wrestlers have kept their dreams of a New England title intact, needing two more victories to accomplish the feat.
Central Catholic, currently sitting in third place overall, has four in the semis – Sam Winship (106), Lucas Copper (120), Rhys Dewar (175) and Brian Waller-Reitano (285).
Haverhill 215-pounder Matt Harrold is the only other area boy to make the semis.
For the girls, Salem’s Ella Paris (100) and Keira Lynch (138) have reached the semifinals, as has Lawrence 235-pounder Hillary MacDonald.
