YELLOW SPRING, W.Va. — The suspect in a fatal shooting in Hampshire County early Saturday is cooperating with investigators, according to Hampshire County Sheriff Nathan Sions.
The shooting occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. along Turnbuckle Drive in Yellow Spring, Sions said.
“Hampshire County 911 received (calls) regarding the shooting from two separate callers,” Sions said. “One of the callers was the (alleged) shooter.”
Sions said the shooting was a result of a domestic incident, and neither the suspect nor the victim have been identified publicly.
“This is a very delicate situation … an adult male shot and killed,” Sions said.
Children were inside the residence when the shooting occurred, Sions added. None of the juveniles were injured.
“There has been a history of law enforcement responses to this residence and per a bond stipulation, the now deceased male was not supposed to be at the residence when the shooting occurred,” Sions said.
Law enforcement officers from the sheriff’s office and West Virginia State Police responded, Sions said.
County emergency medical services personnel from Capon Springs and Hampshire County EMS were dispatched but staged away from the scene.
“The sheriff’s office has been in close communication with the Hampshire County prosecutor’s office,” Sions said.
