FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Fire department officials say an electrical power strip near a computer desk caused a room and it contents to catch on fire in Fort Ashby Friday evening.
The fire, reported in the 7000 block of Frankfort Highway across from Saville Hill Road, was isolated to a single bedroom with no extension, Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Chief James Wasson said.
“It was a single-family home, there were no occupants present at the time of the fire,” Wasson said. “When we arrived on the scene, we had heavy smoke coming out of the front bedroom window.”
Wasson said the homeowner was not home when the fire started.
“The fire was isolated to a room and the contents and believed to be electrical in nature,” Wasson said. “The occupant was displaced, but the house is salvageable.”
Firefighters from Mineral and Hampshire counties and Allegany County were dispatched just before 5:30 p.m., according to a Mineral County 911 Center spokesperson.
Wasson said that units from Mineral County continued to the fire scene. Hampshire County fire crews remained in Mineral County to assist with other calls and Allegany County units were placed in service.
It took 30 firefighters approximately 20 minutes to control the blaze and they remained on the scene for approximately an hour and a half ensuring the fire was out, according to Wasson.
No injuries were reported in the incident, Wasson said.
