Former state Assemblymember Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay), on Jan. 5, contributed $10,000 in leftover campaign cash to the Clinton County Community College Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with his current employer, and $5,000 to the North County Chamber of Commerce, according to a new campaign finance report.
Jones resigned in early September to accept a new job as vice president for strategic innovation and work force development at Clinton County Community College.
The Clinton County Community College Foundation is a separate, yet affiliated, charitable foundation that raises money for scholarships and student financial aid, according to the foundation website.
Jones had $27,156 left in his campaign fund as of Jan. 11, according to a semi-annual report filed with the state Board of Elections
Retiring legislators often contribute remaining campaign funds to charitable organizations, political committees or political candidates.
Other expenses in the period included a $3,000 contribution in October to the campaign of new Assemblymember Michael Cashman (D-Plattsburgh), who won the special election to replace Jones.
CASHMAN
Cashman will run for a full two-year term in the 115th Assembly District in November.
He reported having no campaign finance activity between the close of the special election cycle Dec. 1, when he reported having $38,156 in his campaign fund, and Jan. 11.
The Clinton County Republican Committee will meet in mid-February to discuss potential candidates in the 2026 elections, including the 115th Assembly District, said county Republican Chairwoman Jerika Manning.
The 115th District includes all of Clinton and Franklin counties and a portion of Essex County.
STEC
State Sen. Dan Stec (R-Queensbury) had $85,505 in his campaign fund as of Jan. 11, the most at the opening of an election year in his Senate career.
He had $9,880 in his campaign fund in January 2020, $61,138 in January 2022 and $57,016 in January 2022.
A woman from Warren County is expected to seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Stec, but the potential candidate is not yet ready to be identified, said Warren County Democratic Chairwoman Lynne Boecher.
Stec’s campaign raised $41,445 between July 11, 2025, and Jan. 11. It spent $56,173, largely on campaign fund-raising events and attending charity and community events.
His largest contribution was $3,200 from United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 773 of Glens Falls.
Other contributions of $1,000 or more are include Joseph P. In the 114th Assembly District, Matt Simpson (R-Lake George) had $46,536 in his campaign fund as of Jan. 11.
Simpson’s campaign raised $8,085 between July 11, 2025, and Jan. 11, and spent $56,173, largely on campaign fund-raising events and attending charity and community events.
His largest contribution was $1,000 from the New York State Troopers PAC.
Other contributions of $500 each included Juan Gonzalez, Argyle; Robert Nemer, Diamond Point; Reale Construction, Ticonderoga; F. R. Smith and Sons, Bolton Landing; Miller Industrial Manufacturing, Glens Falls; Cifone Construction, Glens Falls; Save NY political action committee of U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-Schuylerville); and United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 773, Glens Falls.
The 114th District includes all of Warren County, except Glens Falls, and portions of Essex and Washington counties.
