BOYS BASKETBALL
Ipswich 78, Hamilton-Wenham 70 (3 OT): Rex Satter finished with 24 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter and overtime periods, to propel the Tigers to a wild victory. His three-pointer in the third overtime gave IHS (now 5-4) a five-point lead it would not relinquish. Tanner Manning added 17 points for the victors, including a big triple late in the second OT (his brother Trevor had done the same in the first OT). In addition, Anderson Pillis dropped in another 17 points in addition to grabbing 12 rebounds.
Alex Menegoni, who had 24 points to pace Hamilton-Wenham (2-7), sent the game into a second OT with a clutch shot. Caden Schrock did likewise in the second extra session after powering his way to the paint for two points. He wound up with 16 points, with teammates Ben Filipov and Luke Molitano joining him and Menegoni in double figures with 12 each.
Beverly 77, Gloucester 49: Senior captain Jacob Klass erupted for 31 points and dished out a half-dozen assists to give the Orange-and-Black (6-2) a runaway win. Eli Landman also had a big game for Beverly, producing 20 points and pulling down five rebounds.
Salem 76, Danvers 46: Shooting better than 53 percent (33-for-62) from the field and dishing out 22 assists as a team, the Witches (6-1) saw three players score 15 or more points in a runaway victory. Junior Elian Rodriguez was marvelous in scoring 22 points (on 10-of-14 shooting) to go with six rebounds, eight assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Freshman Cleto Deng scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds, and senior captain Nathan Lane added 15 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals.
For Danvers (4-5), Kyle Sillars had 17 points, four assists and a trio of steals.
Masconomet 68, Saugus 35: The Chieftains (6-1) got back to their winning ways thanks to 17 points and seven rebounds from Thomas Denton, plus 15 points and five boards from Jamason Vella. Colin Doherty was also in double digits with 10 points, and freshman Ben Linehan scored nine. Ryan Richardson and Cal Weidman stood out defensively.
Winthrop 63, Peabody 59 (OT): Mark Mendonca’s three-pointer for the Tanners (2-7) with seven seconds left pushed this contest into overtime before the Vikings eventually prevailed. Thad Broughton led Peabody with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jeremiah Agbonavbare, in addition to playing great defense on Winthrop’s top scorer, finished with 14 points as well, with Dom Domenici also in double figures with 11.
Essex Tech 71, Neighborhood House 42: Senior captain Antonio Ceruolo led the way with 23 points to give the Hawks (3-2) an easy win. Junior captain Jack Hanchett added 13 points and sophomore Trevor Guthrie dropped in a dozen for Essex Tech.
Malden Catholic 67, St. John’s Prep 62: Dropping its second straight Catholic Conference game by just five points, the Eagles fell to 1-8 overall after their sixth successive setback.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 55, Ipswich 44: Senior captain Margot Bryce Morris dropped in 29 points, giving her 59 points over the last two nights (including 20-for-27 from the free throw line), as the Generals (5-5) climbed back to .500 at the midpoint of the regular season. Eight different players got onto the scoresheet for Hamilton-Wenham.
Danvers 59, Salem 10: Freshman Stella Shairs led all scorers with 16 points as well as seven points and five steals as the Falcons (7-1) won handily. Avery Baril contributed 10 points and five assists for the winners, with junior Sienna Goldberg adding eight points and five steals as every Danvers player scored. Amelia Vaz, a sophomore, grabbed nine rebounds as well.
Masconomet 47, Saugus 32: Samia Lalikos had another huge effort for the Chieftains with 20 points and 15 rebounds (11 defensive) to give her team the win. Zoe Cote also played a big role with eight points and nine rebounds for the winners (now 6-2) while junior captain Sadie Morris added six points, pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out four assists.
Peabody 57 Winthrop 28: Olivia Gaynor’s 15 points and five steals, plus nine points, a dozen rebounds and five thefts from Sophia Coburn, enabled the Tanners (6-3) to win its second game in as many nights. Lizzie Bettencourt and Ava Ryan each had eight points to go with 10 and eight rebounds, respectively, with teammates Gabby Gosselin, Aliana Ryan and Taylor King also playing well.
Gloucester 61, Beverly 58: Ahead at halftime, the Panthers got strong performances from Clara Kostro (18 points), Marisa Hutton (14) and Kayla Everett (12) in a close setback.
Bishop Fenwick 54, Central Catholic 29: Now 8-0 on the year, Bishop Fenwick got another stellar showing from senior captain Celia Neilson thanks to her 19-point, 9-rebound, 4-assist, 7-steal showcase. Fellow senior captains Caitlin Boyle (11 points, 9 rebounds) and Brittney Figulski (6 points, 3 assists) also played well, as did junior Reese Spurchise (8 points, 5 steals) and freshman Taisha Castillo (7 points, 4 rebounds).
Newburyport 44, Essex Tech 32: The Hawks fell to 1-8 after their eighth consecutive setback.
BOYS SKIING
Hamilton-Wenham 72, Masconomet 63: Colin McCaughey (22.11 seconds) and Sawyer Hancock (22.28) took first and second place to help the Generals topple the Chieftains at Bradford Ski Area. Zachary Smith (23.44) also turned in a strong effort for H-W, as did both Will Totten (23.83) and Tyler Bixby (23.95). The Gens swept their two races, also defeating North Andover, 77-58.
Masconomet was led by David Palmer’s top time down the mountain of 22.37. Tyler Durgan (23.62) and Ben Gaudin (23.74) finished second and third, respectively, for the Chieftains, who also fell to Andover, 76-59.
St. John’s Prep sweeps: The unbeaten Eagles had no problems getting the better of both North Andover (125-10) and Manchester Essex (113-22) by claiming seven of the top eight spots in both races. Owen McLain led the way for St. John’s Prep in 21.66 seconds, good for second overall on the day. He was followed by teammates Dylan Pelletier (21.68), Colton Friedlander (22.04), Victor Barnas (22.18), Anderson Trickett (22.45), Sebastian Garvin (22.50) and August Scanlon (22.75).
WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Endicott 3, Wesleyan 0: Lauren Ferrari stopped all 27 shots that came her way as the Gulls, ranked 10th nationally, blanked the hosts in Connecticut. Lily Anderson notched the game-winning goal in the first period and later added an assist. Emma Rago and Cammi Ahern added second period tallies for Endicott, which improved to 9-4-1.
MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Salve Regina 3, Salem State 1: The Seahawks came into Rockett Arena Tuesday night and dropped the host Vikings to 3-10-1. Ryan Barrett scored the SSU goal, with netminder Will Nepveu keeping it close throughout with 37 saves.
