RANTOUL — For the Westville boys golf team to make history, every score mattered.
The Tigers were in a tie with Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and Hoopeston Area at Brookhill Golf Course, but the score of 87 from golfers Christian Giles and Kiptyn Appl was the tie-breaker and gave Westville its first Vermilion Valley Conference title.
Jacob McCool led Westville with an 84, while Ben Johnson had a 85 and Damian Alvarez had an 86.
Mason Brines led BHRA with an 81, while Cruz Dubois had an 84, Mason Clapp had an 85 and Clark Warren had an 92.
Felix Cantu had an 79 for Hoopeston Area, while Cy Tuggle and Owen Field each had an 86 and Eizen Pyle score an 91.
Jase Latoz won medalist honors with an 78 for Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Cooper Burton shot a 79 to lead Salt Fork, Rudy Hunsberger led Oakwood with a 94, Kolton Morgan led Armstrong-Potomac with an 86 and Noah Fowler led Schlarman Academy with an 90.
Latoz, Burton, Cantu, Brines, McCool, Dubois, Johnson and Clapp were each named to the All-Conference team.
In the girls meet, Salt Fork’s Ava Donaldson made All-Conference with a 93, while Shay Layden had a 95 and Eloise Clayton added an 115 for Hoopeston Area, Avery Trimmell had an 103 and Aunna Park had an 107 for Oakwood, Lani Schulnaker had an 111 and Shelbey McCool had an 115 for Westville.
