MANKATO — A 19-year-old Mankato man was sentenced Monday to just over 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting last year.
Guenther Boone Jr. was sentenced for the shooting death of Darious Dashon Johnson, 31, of Mankato.
The shooting took place just after 3 a.m. Dec. 21, 2024, on the 500 block of East Walnut Street, where Boone entered a vehicle arriving at his residence and shot Johnson, according to the criminal complaint filed in Blue Earth County District Court.
Boone had reportedly planned to rob the vehicle’s driver, court documents said. Johnson was later found deceased in the passenger seat on Grove Street, where the vehicle had been driven following the shooting.
Boone was originally indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder. As part of his plea agreement, additional charges were dismissed in exchange for a sentence at the high end of state sentencing guidelines.
Boone is to serve his prison sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
