BOXFORD — A Massachusetts State Police trooper was in his cruiser at about 10:20 Wednesday night when it was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by a Maine man.
The trooper was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No information was available about the Maine driver.
The trooper was in his cruiser alongside of Interstate 95 north in the vicinity of the 72.7 mile marker in Boxford when the cruiser was struck in the rear by a Subaru Outback operated by a 48-year-old Maine man, according to the State Police.
The right-rear quarter of the cruiser was heavily damaged.
The interstate in the area was shut down briefly while the scene was being cleaned up and investigated by troopers out of the Newbury barracks.
State police said Thursday the crash is remains under investigation and charges are pending the outcome.
