After winning the New Hampshire State title for the third time in four years, the Windham U11 youth baseball all-star team advanced to the New England Cal Ripken Regional tournament held in New Canaan, Ct., and were defeated in all three games, ending the team’s terrific season.
On Saturday, Windham was defeated 3-0 by Greenwich, Ct., which was followed by an 11-1 loss to host New Canaan on Sunday and then 4-1 to Nipmuc of Western Ma., on Monday.
“It was an unfortunate time for the bats to go cold, but that’s baseball,” said coach John Severini. “I love this team. They worked really hard. It’s not easy to win and they do it more than most. We have some special arms and some special players.”
In the first game, Jace Perkins and Max Severini pitched well in the loss. In the second game, Mickey Duff was named the team’s player of the game. In the third contest, Ian Ziakas had a big hit and was named the player of the game.
This marked the team’s fourth regional appearance in the past four years.
After Monday’s loss, the team celebrated their season by attending and being honored at Citi Field during the New York Mets-Anaheim Angels game.
The members of the team include: Charlie Costa, Logan Drelick, Mickey Duff, Tommy Kadish, Joey Kaufman, Connor Kelliher, James Kempesty, Marcus Letizio, Suhaan Patel, Jace Perkins, Max Severini and Ian Ziakas.
