NEWBURYPORT — Maudslay Arts Center favorites New Black Eagle Jazz Band start off the weekend with traditional New Orleans Jazz on Saturday July 19. The Black Eagles, as they are often known to their fans, have been a fixture on the international jazz scene since 1971, bringing the sounds of traditional New Orleans Jazz to audiences all over the world.
Be sure to come back on Sunday afternoon for something new. The Love Dogs’ recipe for music and mayhem: Take one red-hot horn section – we’re talkin’ alto, tenor, baritone saxes – down and dirty. Add liberal amounts of barrelhouse boogie-woogie piano and some stinging Fender guitar.
Based out of Boston, this hard-charging septet just celebrated its 30th anniversary wowing audiences and critics alike with their combination of great musicianship and pure fun. This weekend they will be perform right here at Maudslay Arts Center.
Saturday concerts begin at 7 p.m. including New Black Eagle Jazz Band on July 19, The Don Campbell Band on July 26, Mike Monaghan on Aug. 9, and The Ruta Beggars on Aug. 16. Gates open at 6 p.m. Patio seating (tables and chairs) is $35 while lawn seating (bring your own chairs or blankets) is $30. Children 12 and under are free.
Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2 p.m. including The Love Dogs on July 20, Amanda Carr on July 27, Bobby Keyes on Aug. 10, and Hillyer Festival Orchestra on Aug. 17. Gates open at 1 p.m. General admission is $25 with open seating on the patio and lawn. Tables and chairs are provided on the patio. Special group rates may be arranged by calling 978-388-2552. Children 12 and under are free.
This season is dedicated to Nicholas J. Costello, who died on March 17, at his home in the comforting presence of his loving family.

Maudslay Arts Center is located at 95 Curzon Mill Road, Maudslay State Park, Newburyport. The concerts are held rain or shine, moving to the indoor performance hall adjacent to the patio when weather dictates. General parking is available in the Maudslay State Park lot, which is free after 5:30 p.m. Handicapped parking is available on site at MAC.
The series is operated and supported by dedicated volunteers, private donors, ticket sales and rentals, and the staff of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Saturday evening concerts are supported by Newburyport Bank.
