MANKATO — Free Press journalists recently were recognized for enterprise reporting, column writing and editorial writing by the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists at its awards banquet.
Reporter Mark Fischenich took first place in enterprise reporting for his story on the history and accident rate of roundabouts in the Mankato area. He also won third place in the column category for the Ask Us column.
News Editor Kathy Vos took second place for editorial writing for editorials criticizing religious messages in jails, efforts to stop the Good Counsel development for sober housing, and plans to deny an Indigenous celebration at a high school graduation ceremony.
The Society of Professional Journalists Minnesota Chapter has membership across the state.
