NORTH ANDOVER — An off-duty North Andover police officer was shot at her home by a colleague after an armed confrontation at a Phillips Brook Road residence Monday evening.
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and police Chief Charles Gray announced the ongoing investigation hours after North Andover police reported to the home to serve a court order at 6:30 p.m.
The white house where the shooting occurred sits at the corner of Phillips Brooks Road and Massachusetts Avenue at the entrance of the Atkinson Elementary School. It was surrounded by police tape Monday night.
Officers reportedly entered the home. One of the officers discharged a department-issued firearm on the female police officer. It could not be confirmed if anyone else besides the woman and officers were in the house at the time.
Medical aid was immediately given to the woman, who was struck and wounded by the gun shots. She was then transported to a Boston-area hospital. No one else received medical treatment.
Investigators remained on the scene hours after. The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Essex District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office.
