Thursday, the last day of school for Gloucester Public Schools, saw students at East Veterans Elementary School on Webster Street stream out of the building’s front entrance for summer break.
Some boarded buses, some went to cars waiting in the pickup line and others went to those waiting for them in the school’s front courtyard.
Mom Jennifer Pereira waited for her daughter, Aili Lane, 11, a rising sixth grader, as she came out of school around 11:30 a.m. Pereira held a sign that looked like a chalkboard that read: “Last Day of Elementary School.”
Thursday also marked Aili’s last day at the K-5 East Veterans School as she plans to move on to the sixth grade in Rockport.
“Outstanding,” Aili said when asked how her school year went.
