TRAVERSE CITY — An electric malfunction in the cooling system at the city-county Government Center shut down the building on Monday.
Traverse City and Grand Traverse County officials decided to close the building for the remainder of the day while the problem is assessed and repaired, according to a media release jointly issue by the city and county. Rising temperatures expected into the 90s today and sealed windows have created “conditions (that) have exceeded safe and acceptable levels for staff and the continuity of critical IT infrastructure,” according to the release.
Officials said county staff, including the clerk. treasurer and register of deeds office and various administrative departments will work remotely today and are available by telephone and email. City staff will also work remotely and are available via email. City payments may be made online or made at the drop box outside the Governmental Center.
Updates will be issued as more information is available.
“We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we work to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as soon as possible,” officials said.
