New Mexico transfer Jordy Oriach, from Haverhill, is headed to the University of Georgia, he tells the Eagle-Tribune.
Hitting .388 with 16 HRs and 63 RBIs in his first season at the Div. 1 level this spring with the University of New Mexico Lobos, Oriach took the college baseball scene by storm.
The 6-foot-5 slugger missed his junior (pandemic) and senior seasons (ineligible due to move to Dominican Republic), before taking a gap year in 2022.
Oriach was discovered by a recruiting service through his brother, Juanel, getting his haircut in Florida. He played two seasons of Junior College baseball in Texas, before his lone season at New Mexico.
“I can’t wait to get started down in Georgia,” said Oriach. “Let’s continue to break down those walls, I’m just a kid from Haverhill.”
Of note, Oriach is still contemplating entering the 2025 MLB Draft. But, if he decides to play for the Bulldogs, he immediately becomes one of the most feared hitters in the country.
