CUMBERLAND — Two-time defending Maryland state champion Fort Cumberland Post 13 begins its title defense Monday against Mountain District rival Garrett County Post 71/208/214.
The game will be played at Allegany High School at 6 p.m.
Last season, Post 13 came two wins short of advancing to the national World Series for the first time since 1934, falling to eventual Mid-Atlantic Regional champ Del Vets, 7-6, to finish third.
Fort Cumberland, which ended with a 24-8 record, walked off Cecil, 3-2, to capture its second consecutive state title. Post 13’s championship the prior year was its first since 1976.
Brian McAlpine’s 2025 Fort Cumberland team is far younger. Its lone college players are Caedon Wallace (Allegany College) and Josef Sneathen (Garrett College).
The Allegany grads are joined by fellow Campers Landyn Ansel (Davis and Elkins signee), Myles Bascelli, Cole Ricker, Liam Buck and Kohen Madden, who helped Allegany to its first state championship in 35 years in the spring.
Peyton Blocher (Mount St. Mary’s signee), Colt and Coye Resh, Jake Rice and Carson Bender are the team’s representatives from Fort Hill, and Brady Moran and Bryson Krumpach represent Mountain Ridge.
Garrett County’s roster is comprised of Brayden Upole, Jared Haskiell, Cole Parks, Ben Lohr, Ryan Bird and Reece Tasker from Southern Garrett, and Liam Stewart, Elliott Myers-Shirer, Cole Folk, Devin McKenzie, Robert Deatelhauser, Landon Yoder, Hunter Livengood, Jacob Chambers, Luke Ross and Caleb Hinebaugh from Northern.
