SALEM, N.H. — Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have made a donation of $5,000 to Salem Family Resources, which can be doubled to $10,000 by encouraging community supporters to vote online.
Liberty Mutual and Safeco made the donation through the Gold Lion Insurance Agency, 403 Main St., Salem, recipient of a 2025 “Make More Happen Award” for its partnership with Salem Family Resources, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting education, health and the well-being of children and families in the Salem area.
As of June 2, the Gold Lion Insurance Agency and Salem Family Resources story will be featured on the official Make More Happen website at shorturl.at/klyiy
Supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. If the story receives a total of 500 votes and comments, the $5,000 donation will be increased to $10,000.
Salem Family Resources takes a holistic approach to supporting children, especially those from low-income families, by addressing the needs of the entire family and building long-term resilience.
Their programs include parenting classes, playgroups, family support services and access to critical items like diapers and gift cards for gas and groceries.
A $10,000 donation would cover half the cost of operating the space that hosts vital parent support groups and kids’ playgroups, while also providing essential items for families in need.
By voting for Gold Lion Insurance Agency, supporters can help ensure that families facing hardship continue to receive the compassionate care they deserve.
“Offering people peace of mind is at the hart of everything we do at Gold Lion Insurance, and that mission is beautifully mirrored in the work of Salem Family Resources,” said agent Rachel Leone. “As a young, teen mom, I leaned on a nonprofit like Salem Family Resources during one of the hardest times of my life. Their support helped me grow into a confident parent, build a healthy co-parenting relationship, and create a better future for my daughter.”
Leone now serves on the nonprofit Board of Directors and plays a key role in organizing its annual fundraising gala. One of the agency’s most impactful initiatives was a blockbuster diaper drive, which united clients, networking groups, and the local community to collect hundreds of diapers and baby essentials.
“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about, said Senior Territory Manager Daniel MacNeil of Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance. “Gold Lion Insurance Agency is an outstanding example of how agencies can make a real difference and we hope sharing their story inspires others to give back as well.”
Throughout 2025, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 36 independent agencies nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to nonprofits they support. Agencies become eligible for the award by submitting applications showcasing their commitment to a specific cause.
Home ownership grants announced
BOSTON – The Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Division of Banks awarded $3.5 million in grants to fund first-time homeownership education programs and foreclosure prevention counseling centers throughout Massachusetts.
Local grant recipients included ACT Lawrence, $275,000; Lawrence Community Works, $353,570; and Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership, $200,000.
The funds were awarded through the Chapter 206 Grant Program, which assists homeowners who may be experiencing financial hardship as well as prospective homebuyers who are determining if homeownership is right for them.
The Division of Banks within the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation administers this grant program with fees associated with the licensing of mortgage loan originators. This year’s grant recipients include nine regional foreclosure education centers and 15 consumer counseling organizations.
“Buying and maintaining a home in Massachusetts is a goal for so many residents, but far too many people are held back by the complexities of homeownership,” said Governor Maura Healey. “This program helps put homeownership in reach for hundreds of Massachusetts residents and builds on the work we are doing through the Affordable Homes Act to support first-time homebuyers.”
