BASEBALL
Beverly 8, Salem 4: Micah McManus (2 innings, 1 hit, 5 strikeouts) and Graham Gavin (3 innings, no hits, 7 strikeout) set the tone on the bump and the Panthers (12-7) doubled up the rival Witches (9-11). Danny Pierce went 3-for-3 with a triple from the leadoff spot, Callan McCary had two hits including a triple and Teddy Fisher had two RBI as Beverly built up an 8-0 lead.
Salem tried to rally behind RBI by Shea Christel, Rocco Ryan and Jack Tsoutsouras but came up short.
SOFTBALL
Peabody 10, Swampscott 6: Senior Jazzy Iraola knocked in three runs, junior captain Lizzy Bettencourt drove in two and Jess Steed added two hits as the Tanners (9-11) erased a 5-1 Swampscott lead to win their regular season finale. Freshman Taylor King had a hit and scored three runs, JJ Emerson and Olivia Guarino (2-for-4) had RBI and Peabody tied things up 5-5 in the third and then took leads of 7-5 and 10-6.
The Big Blue saw Lauren Fahey hit an early 2-run double with Olivia Barletta (2 runs) and Mia Tringale (2 RBI) also recording multi-hit ballgames.
Swampscott 14, Lynn English 1: Mia Tringale struck out eight in a complete game 1-hitter and blasted a 3-run home run to power the Big Blue (9-12) to a win as they split a Memorial Day doubleheader. Cece O’Connor went 3-for-4 and scored three runs while Hayden Haskell had a pair of RBI and Olivia Barletta crossed the plate three times.
Hamilton-Wenham 24, Salem Academy 1: The Generals (9-11) made their final shot to reach the top 32 in Division 4 a loud one, racking up 22 hits and scoring at least five runs in four different innings. Maren McCaughey did the most damage, going 4-for-4 with a triple, four runs and four RBI. Viola Fazio also collected three RBI, Ava Day had two hits and scored three and Toni Beaton doubled as 14 different Generals recorded hits. Day, Molly Brandford (2 1/3 perfect innings, 5 strikeouts) and Mary Thompson (2 innings, 3 strikeouts) did the job in the circle.
BOYS LACROSSE
Salem 15, Malden 1: In their final high school games, Andreas Bernal scored five goals with three assists while fellow 12th grader Mikey Curtin added a hat trick as the Witches (7-11) won their last game of 2025 on Senior Day. Nathan Silva also had a big day with two goals and three assists for the winners, with Fionn Coughlin and Jake Lister adding one goal and two assists apiece. Seniors Gabe Bennett and Jayden Benson also scored for Salem, as did underclassman Matt Rosa. The Witches got seven saves from Vincent Milano in net as well.
Swampscott 7, Marblehead 6: After Chase Russo tied the game with under 30 seconds to go, captain and long pole Jay Domelowicz notched the game-winning tally with 6.7 seconds remaining as the Big Blue (10-8) swept their two-game season series from their arch rivals. Jason Rothwell (2), Liam Keaney (plus an assist), Emerson Joy and Joe Marino also scored for Swampscott, while goaltender Timmy Sheehan came up big with 14 saves.
Marblehead (10-8) saw captain Reece Moore finish with a hat trick and sophomore Will Sullivan scored twice, including the go-ahead goal at the time with 65 seconds remaining, and added one assist. Tyler Forbes also had a goal and two assists while Sean Dolan also had two helpers for the Magicians, with goalie Colin Maniaci stopping three shots.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Marblehead 15, Saugus 1: Kathryn Commoss’ five goals plus three tallies and two assists from Maddie Forbes helped the Magicians (12-6 overall) finish 10-3 in Northeastern Conference play. Caitlyn Ryan added two goals and two assists for Marblehead, which also got two goals from Ramona Gillett and one apiece from Gretchen Smith, Emma Ryan and Avery Barbeau. Goalkeeper Molly Bullard had a strong game of her own with 10 saves.
Salem 11, Winthrop 6: First time starter in net Daniesha Finnerty made seven saves for the win while seniors Sydney Agno (6 ground balls) and Kate Heppner (4 GB’s) each scored three goals with one assist as the Witches ended their season with a 6-12 mark (6-7 in conference). Junior Lily Navins added two goals and three ground balls for Salem, which also got a goal and two assists from sophomore Kailyn Ricciarelli, a goal and two ground balls from senior captain Whitney New, and the second goal of the season from freshman defender Jackie Fritz.
