Three Buffalo youths were taken into custody Sunday night following a chase involving a stolen car that began in Wheatfield.
While on patrol in the area of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Mavis Drive, Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputy Pino saw two vehicles make an improper u-turn and follow each other into a residential area. When Pino tried to initiate a traffic stop, both vehicles fled, traveling along Krueger, Norman and Nash roads at which point the vehicles split up, heading in opposite directions.
Pino gave chase to one vehicle, determining it to be stolen out of the Town of Amherst. The pursuit continued through numerous municipalities and was joined by several police agencies.
Ultimately, riding on a flat tire, then the rim of the vehicle, it came to rest in McCarthy Park in Buffalo at which point all occupants fled on foot from the vehicle.
Pino deployed K9 Reggie and Lt. Kroening responded with a drone. With the assistance of the City of Buffalo Police and New York State Police, three occupants — an 18-year-old female and 13- and 15-year-old males— were taken into custody without incident. They were charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property 3rd and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
The 18-year-old was remanded to the Niagara County jail and the juveniles were released to their parents.
The sheriff’s office noted that all three of them were repeat offenders with multiple arrests of a similar nature.
The second vehicle wasn’t located but was also suspected of being stolen.
