BEVERLY — After three hours of negotiations, a man barricaded inside a Rantoul Street apartment complex while experiencing a mental health crisis surrendered peacefully to the Beverly Police Department on Tuesday afternoon with no reported injuries.
Police were called about noon to an apartment complex on Rantoul Street following a report of an person experiencing a mental health crisis who may be armed. Police set up a safety perimeter and requested assistance from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team and State Police, Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said.
Following his surrender to authorities, the individual was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He is not facing criminal charges, LeLacheur said.
“I want to thank our partners at NEMLEC and the Massachusetts State Police for assisting us with this potentially dangerous call,” he said. “SWAT Team members used their training and expertise to bring this call to a peaceful conclusion. The individual in question will now be connected with appropriate services that can help him in the future.”
