A young child is in critical condition at Oishei Children’s Hospital after being trapped under a vehicle at an Ellicott Road home in Hartland on Monday.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reports that 911 dispatchers were alerted to the accident about 5:10 p.m. Monday. Arriving deputies found the young child unconscious and trapped under the vehicle. Deputies and various EMS, law enforcement and bystanders worked to extricate the child. Once freed, lifesaving intervention began and Mercy Flight was called in to fly the child to Oishei.
The child was listed in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit on Monday night.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, New York State Police, Middleport Village Police and Wright’s Corners Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the scene.
Sheriff’s officials said those at the home at the time of the accident are cooperating with the investigation of the incident, which appeared to be accidental in nature.
