NEWBURYPORT — The Custom House Maritime Museum’s Community Gallery is showcasing Lifelong Craft: The Model Boats of Paul Tremblay, through June 19. Lifelong Craft is a special exhibition celebrating the craftsmanship of the 96-year-old Newburyport resident. The exhibit features 10 handcrafted model boats, each built freehand. Tremblay’s fascination with ships began as a boy growing up along the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. He is a self-taught carpenter, who went on to build both real boats and intricate models.
Today, Tremblay resides at the Heritage House senior living community in Newburyport. This exhibit celebrates a lifetime dedicated to craftsmanship, creativity, and maritime tradition.
The Community Gallery at the CHMM is a free, rotating gallery space for presentation of arts and crafts and display of specialty collections. Themes must adhere to the museum’s mission.
