PERU — Finders are keepers, for a price, at the Granny’s Attic Boutique Sale, scheduled over three days this month at the Peru Community Church Fellowship Center, 13 Elm St., near the intersection of Routes 22, 22B and Elm.
Doors open at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17 with a wide variety of items donated by church members, community and friends. A bake sale (until sold out) will be available for purchase along with donated treasures looking for a new home.
Doors close 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17 and re-open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18 with most items at half-price. A clearance sale is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24 to re-home any remaining items.
“It’s amazing,” Barb Benkwitt, Granny’s Attic coordinator, said. “We always get so many donations from so many people from the church, but also just the general community and it’s year by year. I can’t yet tell what we have a lot of or not because we have so many things. We’ve got some children’s strollers and small bicycles. We’ve got plenty of dishware. We have plenty of books and some sporting goods, some soft goods, too. It’s just amazing the variety. There’s really something for everyone here. We appreciate it all.”
Antiques Hunting
Like previous sales, antiques and collectibles will be grouped in a special section.
“We have a couple of old saws that came in and some other close antique-y types — more than 50 years old,” Benkwitt said.
“We try to categorize the tables, so that it’s easy for people to find things as well as to display them. We do have a children’s section, so we will have children’s books separated from regular books. Kids want to come and browse through the books, that’s fine. We will have a place where they can even sit.”
Toys and puzzles are among sale items as well as games.
“Which are always a big hit, especially the older folks like the puzzles,” she said.
Attendees can scour tables for art, frames and soft goods such as blankets and linens.
“We have some quilting fabric, too,” she said. “There are still another several days to take donations.”
The Granny’s Attic sales started more than 10 years ago, with a slight format change in 2017, expanding to twice a year after the pandemic for fall and spring sales. Proceeds benefit the Peru Community Church operations and programs.
“We will have the full price on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” Benkwitt said.
“On Sunday, most everything that is left is half price. We’ll consolidate everything else, and the following Saturday we will have a deep discount,” she said. “Buy everything for one price in a bag. Some items pay what you want, so that it really gets out in circulation. We don’t need to save it, and certainly don’t want to take it to the landfill.”
