CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Frankfort opened the Class AAA, Region II playoffs with a 15-1 five-inning rout of Robert C. Byrd (RCB) on Thursday.
The Falcons (19-7) scored seven runs in the second, two coming off errors along with a sacrifice fly from Jacob Nething and singles by Jesus Perdew and Gunnar Bradshaw.
Perdew led Frankfort going 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Sensabaugh went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk.
Lanson Orndorf earned the win in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The Falcons host Keyser on Friday.
Keyser splits, wins elimination game
WEIRTON, W.Va. — Keyser kept its season alive with a 8-5 win at Lewis County in Thursday’s elimination game of the Class AAA, Region II playoffs.
The Golden Tornado (7-18-1) scored seven runs in the first inning off doubles from Hunter Harr and Lucas Davy and singles by Mikey Mongold and Wes Hahn.
Lucas Williamson, Davy and Mongold all went 3 for 4 with Williamson and Davy adding a pair of RBIs.
Williamson tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
Against Robert C. Byrd on Wednesday, Ashton Shaffer doubled twice and tripled and Owen O’Mara tossed six solid innings to pace the Eagles to an 8-3 win.
The opening-round game was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed twice due to rain.
Keyser scored first in the opening inning on a Cam Larkin RBI single, but RCB, the No. 2 seed in the region ahead of Frankfort and behind Bridgeport, scored three runs in the bottom half and pulled away late.
Shaffer drove in three runs, and Cooper Floyd hit safely three times and scored thrice.
O’Mara picked up the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings with six strikeouts and four walks.
Layton Valentine took the loss for Keyser.
Hampshire 4, Berkeley Springs 3
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire avoided elimination with a walk-off win over Berkeley Springs on Thursday.
The Trojans (10-16) entered the seventh trailing 3-2 before a Mason Wolford double evened the score at 3.
After an intentional walk, Landon Whitacre grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Brayden Hott to score the winning run.
Hott led Hampshire going 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Ethan VanMeter went the distance, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
The Trojans head to Lincoln on Friday for another elimination game.
East Hardy 4, Pendleton County 3
FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Evan Hamilton and Jordan Teets went deep, leading East Hardy over Pendleton County in Thursday’s Class A, Region II opener.
Hamilton’s led-off the game with a solo shot to right while Teets opened the second inning with a solo blast to left.
James Vincell answered with a solo shot to lead-off the sixth for the Wildcats.
Hamilton was one of four Cougars (9-15) with two hits while Teets earned the win across 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks.
The teams play again at Pendleton County on Friday.
Braxton Co. 5, Moorefield 4
SUTTON, W.Va. — Moorefield scored two runs in the seventh inning to force extras, but Braxton County walked it off in the eighth in a Class AA, Region II elimination game Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-23) drew level on an RBI single by Colasessano Dylan in the seventh. Cyrus Kump struck an RBI double two batters prior.
Landon Mays walked it off with a line drive single to right field with two outs in the eighth.
Luke Kelly pitched all eight innings for Braxton, earning the win after surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts to two walks.
Blake Snyder pitched a gem in relief to keep Moorefield in the game, taking the loss despite allowing just one unearned run on one hit in 4 2/3 frames.
Ben Watts doubled twice to pace the Moorefield offense.
