SOFTBALL
Beverly 4, Marblehead 2: Gabbi Wickeri spun a two-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts and the Panthers (10-4) snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh when Athena McKenna and Meredith Johnston both brought home runs to pull into a tie in the loss column atop the NEC Dunn (Beverly being 8-2 and Marblehead 9-2). Sophia Balducci was 2-for-3 with a double for Beverly.
Tessa Francis fanned eight in a 5-hitter for Marblehead (12-2 overall) and Nora Mahan and Hailey Schmitt had RBI to get the game tied in the top of the sixth.
Danvers 6, Masconomet 2: Skylar Coakley went the distance on the hill for Danvers (now 8-6), allowing just seven hits and one earned run while fanning five hitters. She also went 2-for-3 offensively with an RBI. Briley Keezer also had two hits and knocked in a run. Angie Vecchio went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Masco (7-8), Charlotte Leiss added two hits and Sydnee Vocino went the distance in the circle, scattering eight hits.
Gloucester 11, Swampscott 5: Lauren Fahey had two hits and two RBI while Olivia Barletta drove in a run but the Big Blue’s upset bid fell short as Gloucester took advantage of five errors and also had 13 hits of its own.
Hamilton-Wenham 10, Amesbury 9: Bianca Frederickson blasted a two-run homer while Sydney Smith, Mia Broyles, Viola Fazio and Molly Bransford all had two hits to highlight the Generals’ 13-hit attack. Ava Day went the distance pitching and struck out four to pick up the win.
Pingree 14, Concord Academy 2: A great defensive effort sparked by Antonella Najim’s five-hitter with four strikeouts led the Highlanders. Molly Degnan (2 RBi) and Samahra Salah (RBI) each led the offense with two hits.
BASEBALL
St. John’s Prep 4, Catholic Memorial 0: In the annual ALS Awareness Game, Braeden Hurley, James Willett and Joe Eberhardt combined for the shutout as the Eagles improved to 9-5. Ty Spear had a 3-for-4 effort at the plate for St. John’s, Willett racked up two hits with an RBI and Nic Lembo also doubled in a run.
Beverly 8, Marblehead 5: Callan McCay had a pair of hits and the Panthers (8-6) got RBI from six batters (Danny Pierce, McCay, Colby McLane, Teddy Fisher, Jon Reyes and Jonah Bellew) to outlast the Magicians (7-10). Graham Gavin struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings of work while Reyes and Brayden Haley kept Marblehead at bay in the late innings. Owen Coyne pitched well out of the ‘pen for Marblehead and Grey Leventhal picked up an RBI.
Masconomet 3, Danvers 1: Cruz Zizza tossed a complete game five hitter and the Chieftains (7-7) won their fourth straight with Chris Porfido clubbing two doubles and driving home a run. Liam Ginley also recorded an RBI and Davis Deluties singled and scored. Beckett Wodarski pitched well in defeat for Danvers (also 7-7), striking out six and allowed just two earned over the distance. Bryce Clark had two hits for the Falcons and scored.
Pingree 9, Marianapolis 2: The Highlanders (10-4) scored five runs with two outs in the fourth to win their regular season finale. Ty Boviard struck out five to earn the win while Mateus Feick (3-for-3, RBI), Jimmy Keck (2-for-4, two runs), Drew Mullaney (2-for-4, RBI), Jack Spear (two RBI) and Aidan Horgan led the offense.
Bishop Stang 7, Bishop Fenwick 4: Drew Kiricoples went 2-for-4 and scored twice but the Crusaders (5-14) couldn’t hold an early lead at home. Brady Jenkins also had a hit and Anthony Herbert and Ty Santos both recorded hits and RBI.
Gloucester 11, Swampscott 8: Nick Berube (2-for-3, two runs, RBI) and Dylan DiFilippo (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI) had big days at the plate but the Big Blue (7-9) allowed seven runs in the fourth and came up short in their bid to hand Gloucester its first NEC loss. Caden Ross scored twice and Andrew Sparacio recorded two hits.
Salem 6, Saugus 3: Jack Tsoutsouras came on for the final two outs to save the win for Kevin Soto, who struck out eight while allowing a mere three hits in 6 1/3 innings. Tsoutsoutas and Jordan O’Malley both had two hits with doubles for Salem (now 8-6) and Rocco Ryan came around two score twice.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Beverly 12, Peabody 8: Senior captain Joselyn Silva had four goals, including her school record breaking 299th point, as the Panthers scored a major victory over the Northeastern Conference leading Tanners. Silva, who also had three draw controls, now has 302 career points. Sophomore Sasha Miller (5 goals 2 assists, 5 draw controls) also had a huge afternoon for the Panthers, with Cameron Koloski, Lindsay Kaszynski, and Annabelle Miller (4 draw controls) also playing key roles in the triumph.
Peabody captain Brooke Lomasney had two goals and three assists, Ally Bettencourt scored four times and Madi Barrett and Ari Alvarado netted one each.
Marblehead 10, Masconomet 6: Maddie Forbes and Ramona Gillett both had two goals and one assist while Kathryn Commoss and Caitlyn Ryan also had two scores to give the Magicians (10-6) a hard fought win. Molly Bullard stopped 11 shots in net for the winners, with Zoe Dwyer and Gretchen Smith both contributing one goal and one assist.
Bishop Fenwick 6, St. Mary’s Lynn 2: In a defensive battle, Courtney McKenzie stopped a dozen shots in net while Caroline LaPalme and captain Frankie Herbert excelled in their own end to give the Crusaders a clutch win. Molly Sullivan led the offense for Fenwick with four goals, with Breanna Genzale and Hannah Bettencourt also scoring and Kiley Bloom assisting on three tallies.
Salem 14, Winthrop 8: Mari Diaz, a senior, stopped nine shots in net while classmate Samantha Ago scored five times with one assist to send the Witches to victory. Sydney Ago added two goals and two assists, Kailyn Ricciarelli scored three times, Kate Heppner, Whitney New, Lily Navins and freshman defender Jackie Fritz all added one goal each, and the defensive work of Isla Heppner, Leah De La Rosa, Jaylitza Del Rosario and Sophie Fritz also contributed mightily to the win.
Swampscott 18, Saugus 1: Seven goals and three assists from Avery Laundry led the Big Blue (now 12-3) to an easy win. Victoria Pierro (goal, 5 assists) also had a big day, with Cecelia Tripp, Bridget Maloney (assist) and Quinn Kelleher each producing two goals. Chloe Puzzo (assist), Emma Reen, Caroline Reen and Fiona Keaney were single scorers for Swampscott, which saw goalie Lilah Caplan finish with six saves.
Ipswich 13, Georgetown 2: Thirteen different players — Allie Wile, Lily Cummins, Ella McCarthy, Taryn Desmond (2 assists), Caroline Winthrop (assist), Lucy Winthrop (2 assists — for 100 career points), Katherine Rafferty, Keira McPartlin, Faith Hauenstein, Avery Brown, Kylynne Courville, Maddie Hanson, and Jayne Krause — sparked the Tigers to a Senior Night win. Lyla Greenleaf had two assists and Ella Schofield one, with goalie Emma Paquette stopping four shots.
Salem 14, Winthrop 8: Mari Diaz made nine saves while Sam Agno scored five times to spark the Witches. Kate Heppner scored and won nine draws, Sydney Agno had two goals and two assists, Whitney New, Lily Navins and Jackie Fritz netted one each and Kailyn Ricciarelli added a hat trick.
BOYS LACROSSE
Beverly 10, Peabody 7: Connor Wallace (2 goals, 4 assists), Will Burgess (3 goals, 2 assists) and 15 saves from goalie Lucas Carbone gave the Panthers (3-10) their first two-game winning streak of the season. Talan Rafter added two goals, with Ridley Acheson and Kaleb Kaplan also scoring. Single assists went to Will Johnson, Matthew Rex and Sean Costa.
Steven Brown paced the Peabody (6-9) offense with four goals and Antonio Anzalone had two. Derek Collins added one goal, Jayden Kritikos picked up two assists and Anthony Costanzo one, and goaltender Aidan Haight finished with 13 saves.
St. John’s Prep 5, Xaverian 4: Junior Mattheus Du Plessis came up with seven big saves while Ryan McCarthy (2 goals, assist) led the offense, propelling the Eagles to their 15th win in 16 games. Nate Bernarducci, Owen White and Sam Wilmot were other defensive stars for St. John’s Prep, which got additional goals from Jackson Quigley, Luke Kelly and Josh Barton, plus an assist from Will Crawford (who went 11-of-12 on faceoffs)
Winthrop 12, Salem 2: Turnovers hurt the Witches (4-10), who got goals from Mikey Curtin and AJ Alessi as well as an assist from Gabe Bennett. Goalie Vincent had 12 saves.
St. Mary’s Lynn 12, Bishop Fenwick 6: A four-goal outing from captain Nathan Ricciuti and two more snipes plus one assist form C.J. Byrne weren’t enough to push the Crusaders past their arch rivals. John Romans also had one assist for Fenwick, which saw Liam Kelsch stand on his head while making 18 saves in net.
Phillips Exeter 10, Pingree 4: Despite 18 saves from Max Becker and 10-of-18 faceoff wins by Finley McClintock, the Highlanders fell to 14-4. Jake Hiltz, Henry Card, Nick Donovan and Quinn Donovan were the Pingree goal scorers.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Andover 2: Shea Doherty and Dillon McCarthy had seven and five blocks, respectively, allowing the Eagles to prevail, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7. Jayden Pelletier finished with a team high 10 kills for SJP while Graham Pasersky had 27 assists.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 5, Salem 0: TJ Kelly (6-1, 6-0), Quinn Sullivan (6-1, 6-0) and Quinn Fletcher (6-3, 6-4) won in singles action, while the doubles teams of Nico Altonian/Alex Boehning (6-0, 6-0) and Graydon Waller/Filip Wabno (6-1, 6-0) also prevailed to complete the MHS sweep.
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Ipswich 0: Cole Flather had an excellent showing in third singles for Ipswich, battling to a third set tiebreaker before eventually falling in a three-hour match.
St. John’s Prep 5, St. John’s Shrewsbury 0: Now 15-0 on the season, the Eagles got wins from Rudr Malaya (8-0 pro set), Jack Prokopis (6-0, 6-1) and Luke Free (6-0, 6-1) in singles as well as Luke Prokopis/Boris Kouzminov (8-2 pro set) and James deBuy Wenninger/Wade Evitts (6-2, 6-2) to stay unbeaten.
GIRLS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Ipswich 2: Down 3-0 in the second set, second singles player Emily McIntosh rallied to score the decisive victory, 6-4, 7-5, to give the Generals the win in this battle of Cape Ann League powers. Naomi Provost added a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles for H-W, with Sofie Green and Gabriella Jewitt taking a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at second doubles.
Emily Hannibal rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at third singles for Ipswich. The first doubles tandem of Lila Borgman and Sophia Johannknects prevailed in another three setter, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
Swampscott 5, Gloucester 0: In her first singles match, No. 3 player Eve Byrne won 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 in a third set tiebreaker to send the Big Blue to a sweep. Ana Eccles (6-1, 6-1) and Lilly Carr (6-0 6-1) breezed in the first two singles spots, and the doubles teams of Ava and Alexia O’Donnell (6-0, 7-5) and Sasha Fafel ands Janielle de la Cruz (6-2, 6-2) also won in straight sets.
Marblehead 4, Beverly 1: The Magicians wound up winning five of seven three-set matches against the Panthers in two meetings this spring, including two more on Wednesday. Nina Johnson (1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5) and Abbie Goodwin (2-6, 6-2 6-4) rallied for MHS victories at second and third singles, respectively. Lani Gilmore and Reese Friedman combined for a 6-2, 6-3 win at first doubles, and Josie Reers and Callie Gilmore did likewise at second dubs, 6-1, 6-2.
First singles player Adeline Kontos won a three-setter of her own for Beverly, claiming a 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 triumph.
GIRLS TRACK
Ipswich 80, Lynnfield 53: Alana Novello was a triple winner in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and the 200 meters as the Tigers finished the record season with a 3-1 mark. Lily Harper blazed her way to wins in both the 100 and 400 for IHS, with other winners including Mary Love (mile), Kameya Perron (pole vault) and Bree Doucet (discus). In addition, Bella Bruno, Jenny White, Jade McMillan and Una Whyte won the 4×100 relay, with Soren Shearer, Stella Whitten, Love and Sophia Magee doing likewise in the 4×400.
Peabody wins two: Makayla Kokozenis’ late win in the high jump and a victory in the 4×400 relay helped Peabody top Swampscott, 71-60, in addition to a 120-8 victory over Salem. Other winners for the Tanners were Maya Sutton (low Hurdles), Ava and Leah Buckley (2-mile), Tanairi Cassiano (triple jump), Kayley Bunn (high hurdles), Tamara Kemagisha (100), Jane Haight (mile), Ava Champigny (400) and the 4×100 relay.
BOYS TRACK
Ipswich 75, Lynnfield 70: Ange Tshibambe was a winner in both the 110 hurdles and the 400 while being part of the victorious 4×400 relay team alongside Huck Harlow, Joe Wertz and Alex Young, allowing the Tigers to finish the regular season at 2-2. Wertz (400 hurdles), Oliver Cullem (pole vault), Eric Shea (discus), Ryan Jones (mile) and Young (800) also finished first in their respective events.
