Haverhill 18, Whittier Tech 9
In a huge in-city matchup, Haverhill, now 8-3, gave Whittier Tech, now 10-1, their first loss of the season. Jake Staples was dominant for the Hillies, scoring six goals and hitting the 100-goal career plateau.
North Andover 13, Dracut 7
On Tuesday, the Scarlet Knights took down Dracut. Trey Kean went off for five goals while adding four assists. Alongside Kean, Matt Donovan and Tommy Farrell each scored three goals. Goalie Brayden Santora made 13 saves in the victory.
Salem 14, Windham 10
The Blue Devils won a key match over Windham on Wednesday night. In the loss for Windham, Evan Ardizzone scored four goals.
Pinkerton 16, Londonderry 9
The Astros found a key victory over the Lancers.
Softball
Windham 15, Nashua North 0
Frosh Lily Carballeira notched her first varsity win on the mound, throwing a one hit gem. Ava Runde led the Jaguars with three hits on the day, while four others had multi-hit games, including a monster home run from Ari DiCotis.
North Andover 6, Billerica 0
Striking out six batters, it was another impressive afternoon for Emmanuel College commit Jess Voutour, allowing only one hit in the shutout. Riley Cogliano had two hits. North Andover is now 6-4.
Central Catholic 2, Andover 1
Grabbing a significant MVC win, the Raiders shut down the upset-minded Warriors at the plate, staying in front throughout the game. Central Catholic is now 9-1 on the season, while Andover falls to 7-4.
Pinkerton 9, Winnacunnet 1
Led by a masterful performance on the mound from ace Julia Caruso, who struck out 18 batters, Pinkerton stormed over visitor Winnacunnet. Caitlyn Lemay drove in two runs at the plate, while Caruso was equally as impressive batting, driving in four runs on 2 hits. The Astros scored eight runs in the first two innings, as Pinkerton is now 9-1 on the year.
Brooks 12, Milton Academy 0
Lawrence freshman Sophia Florencio went 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and 3 RBIs in a crushing Brooks victory. Andover’s Jackie Giordano was 3-for-4 at the plate, pitching a one-hitter. Giordano struck out 11 batters in the shutout win.
Bishop Guertin 8, Timberlane 6
Trailing 6-0 after two innings, the Owls rallied for five runs in the fourth, before ultimately falling to Bishop Guertin. Madison McFadden led Timberlane with three hits at the plate in the defeat.
Girls Lacrosse
Pinkerton 18, Londonderry 13
Tied at the break, the Astros pulled away for a big second half led by four goals and five assists from Hannah Lisauskas. Alongside her, Francesca Doyle and Delanie Summers also scored four goals in the victory.
North Andover 10, Belmont 9
Led by Meghan Daley with four goals and two assists, the Scarlet Knights won a thriller over Belmont. Isa Robinson had two goals and 3 assists. Niki Daley had 7 draw controls.
Georgetown 17, Haverhill 4
It was all Royals over Haverhill on Wednesday. Despite the defeat, Hillie goalie Lucia Antonelli held her own, stopping nine shots. Natalie Libby scored two goals and added an assist to lead Haverhill offensively.
Baseball
Central Catholic 1, Haverhill 0
In his first start of his high school career, Shayne Welch turned heads on the mound, shutting out the Hillies at the plate. Brayden Rivard drove home the lone run of the game with a sacrifice fly. Central is now 5-8 on the season.
St. Sebastian’s 4, Brooks 3 (8 innings)
Brooks dropped a close one in their first extra-innings game of the season on Wednesday afternoon. Logan Huffman scored two runs and had two hits for Brooks. Shayne King hit a game-tying home run in the top of the 7th inning. Sophomore Andrew Martin pitched the first seven innings for Brooks, tying a career high with nine strikeouts.
Chelmsford 6, Methuen 1
Two errors defensively hurt the Rangers, as Chelmsford pulled away for the victory. Joey Tavarez got the starting nod, allowing four hits through five innings. Logan Baez had two hits to lead Methuen at the plate.
Pinkerton 8, Winnacunnet 3
Battle-tested heading into the 5th, trailing 3-0 on the road, the Astros awoke for three runs in the 5th and the 6th, pushing them to a victory to remain undefeated on the season. The now 4-6 Warriors gave Pinkerton a scare, plating three runs in the fourth, but a two-run home run from Brendan Horne tied things up at 3 apiece, before the Astros pulled away.
Timberlane 9, Bishop Guertin 8
Pitching four scoreless innings and batting 2-for-3 at the plate, Matt Fitzgerald pushed the Owls to a key victory over Bishop Guertin. Mike Santosuosso also chipped in for two hits. Kieran Lamb earned the win in relief. Timberlane is now 6-5 on the season.
Windham 7, Nashua North 2
Jaguar pitchers Jake Sullo and Josh Martino combined to shut down Nashua North’s offense, pitching seven innings, only allowing two hits, and striking out ten batters. Sullo helped his own cause at the plate, getting two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Alex Blanco had his first varsity hit in the victory.
Andover 11, Dracut 1
It was all Warriors in a dominating win over Dracut. Chris Jaillet threw five shutout innings, striking out nine batters. Jaillet has yet to allow a run this season. Will Norris led the Andover offense with two RBIs.
Girls Tennis
Andover 5, North Andover 0
It was another day, another victory for Andover’s girls tennis team. In the sweep, Mia Thomas and Ishwa Dharan were fantastic in their singles match. The Golden Warriors remain undefeated at 11-0 on the season.
Billerica 4, Haverhill 1
While the grouping of Chelsea Taabi and Abby Mistretta won a key match for Haverhill, the Indians dominated the day as a whole, grabbing the victory.
Kearsage 6, Pelham 2
The Pythons fell to a strong Kearsage team. Sarah Bellahrossi was the lone Pelham player to win a singles match, while Karlie Jundt and Sydney Connolly won their doubles match, 8-2. Pelham is now 1-4 on the season.
Tewksbury 5, Lawrence 0
The Lancers fell on the road to Tewksbury on Wednesday afternoon.
Boys Tennis
Haverhill 3, Tewksbury 2
Grabbing their first victory of the season, Austin Palmsiano and Maty Bartek each achieved their first doubles win, en route to the Hillie victory. Miles Stapel continued his torrid run in singles, winning 6-2 and 6-2. Haverhill is now 11-1 on the year.
Salem 8, Windham 1
Led by Brendan Lynn, it was all Blue Devils over Windham on Wednesday afternoon. As Lynn swept his singles match, Dylan Coyle also was impressive, winning his match 8-1.
Volleyball
Pinkerton 3, Hollis-Brookline 0
The Astros dropped their second consecutive match, this time to an undefeated Hollis-Brookline team. Kaden Layne was strong with 10 kills and 3 digs, while Ben Koelb led the team with 13 assists. Pinkerton is now 6-0 on the season, facing off against Londonderry next on Friday.
Lowell 3, Haverhill 1
Taking on one of the premier programs in the state, the Hillies fell to Lowell, despite being tied at one apiece heading into the third set. After a thrilling 34-32 Haverhill win in the second set, the Red Raiders pulled away with a 25-8 win in the third. Peter Grillo had 30 assists, while Kole Sindoni had 11 kills.
Innovation Academy 3, Whittier Tech 2
The Wildcats fell in a thriller at home to 6-8 Innovation Academy.
Londonderry 3, Windham 0
The Jaguars fell to the Lancers in three straight sets.
