The Oneonta baseball team couldn’t hold off Waverly on Friday as the Yellowjackets fell at home 4-3 in a rematch of last year’s Section IV Class B title game.
After falling behind 3-0, Oneonta tied things up in the sixth inning thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Grayson Brockington and a two-run single by Matt Rigas.
But after Waverly regained the lead in the top of the seventh, OHS couldn’t climb back in the bottom half despite getting the tying run to third base.
Bruce Mistler took a no-decision on the mound after striking out five batters in six innings.
Oneonta (9-2) will be at Susquehanna Valley on Monday.
Cooperstown 3, Poland 1
A three-run sixth inning rally helped Cooperstown defeat Poland 3-1 at home on Friday.
Aaron Katz’s two-run homer was the big blow of the game while Elijah McCaffrey also drove in a run in the inning.
McCaffrey was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 batters in six innings and Brody Murdock picked up the save with two punchouts in the seventh.
Cooperstown (2-2) will visit Little Falls on Saturday.
Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs 13, Laurens/Milford 6
Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs took down Laurens/Milford 13-6 on the road Friday.
Parker Sitterly went 2-for-3 in the win while Austin Rockwell and Cayden Layman each drove in two runs. Kris Cade, Michael Cashman and Layman combined for six strikeouts on the mound.
Clark Smith led L/M with two hits and two RBI, William Rohde went 2-for-3 and Evan Clark notched a double. Aidan Mertz recorded four strikeouts in relief.
CV-S/SS (3-5) will host Richfield Springs on Monday and L/M (5-5) will host Schenevus the same day.
Gilboa/Roxbury 6, South Kortright 2
Gilboa/Roxbury went on the road Friday and defeated South Kortright 6-2 in a Delaware League contest.
David Cammer tossed a two-hitter for G/R, finishing with eight strikeouts in the win. At the plate, Burton Strauch notched a triple and Garrison Ross had a double.
The South Kortright pitching duo of Logan Reinshagen and Cole Thomas combined for 16 strikeouts in the losing effort.
Gilboa/Roxbury improves to 4-4 while SK falls to 3-4.
Deposit-Hancock 10, Delhi 8
An eight-run fifth inning allowed Deposit-Hancock to rally from an early deficit and defeat Delhi 10-8 in MAC action on Friday.
Brody Matthews had two hits including a double and three RBI to lead the Eagles’ offense.
For Delhi, Isaac Marsiglio had a bases-clearing double, Lucas Nealis had two hits and three RBI and Bronson Thomson also notched two hits.
Delhi (3-4) will host Walton/Downsville on Saturday.
